The average amount of sexual partners is usually 7 for men and 4 for women, and I'm guessing some men overstated in the study while women understated their number.

But I was googling around and reading comments in response to related articles about the number of sexual partners, and the majority of comments who were by people in their early twenties stated they had anywhere from 20-50 sexual partners. Are these people lying? If they are I don't know why they would be exaggerating so much. Why are these numbers off so much from the averaged stated in the studies done?

Give me their contact information and I will arrange for a polygraph. Meanwhile, I don't think the world will be any the worse if they lied or if they screwed everything on the planet.

You know that something is up, when the numbers diverge by gender - if the medians diverged that would be one thing, but divergent averages scream of erroneous data. I just looked at a website that said the average for guys was 11, while it was 6.6 for women - something's fishy, unless they're also including non-hetero relations.

also bear in mind that this community is for those of us with relationship issues. those still happily married to their first partner are not represented here so that skews the averages.

it just means that 85% of the women are having sex with the 15% of the guys who are jerks.

You do realize what the difference is between an average and a median don't you?
