vixen Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Sounds like a NIN song. LOL sigh. My kitten Cloud has fallen so ill that he has lost half his body weight in the past four days. He's a horse to begin with, so the change is noticeable. He's five months old now. Just hit puberty. I'm a wreck. I love this little cat so much, we've bonded so well. This is why i hate falling in love. This stuff hurts so much. Yes I'd rather have not known him then love him and loose him. Sure it seems like a lonely life, but at least i wouldn't suffer any heart ache. I'm so broke this holiday season i can't afford to bring him to the vet. Had he waited a month I would be able too. he is refusing to eat, and barely drinks, and when i force food in him he throws it up. It's horrible, i spent all of last night crying about it. I mean sobbing, I'm still so tiered from it. Cloud knows it's him I'm crying over, but he still can't bring himself to eat. I've bought wet food to make it easier on him, I've offered him his favorite foods, to no avail. Merry Xmas to me, last year was horrible, (husband dumped me at this time) this year is just peachy!! (dripping sarcasm) So you see i can't win, if i fell in love with the world it would end tomorrow. well technically i do love our planet, so if it ends tomorrow I'm apologizing in advance. OK? Vixen
Tony T Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Most towns have an animal clinic that will see and treat an animal whose owner is not able at the time to make payment. Some will take payment over a period of time or make specific arrangements. Contact your local SPCA and tell them the problem. They have vets who volunteer their time and may be able to help you. There are also not-for-profit animal shelters and animal lovers who have money who will help as well. Call your local newspaper or television station, as to speak to a reporter, and ask them if they know of somebody who could help. They often do. Veterinarians are people who love animals and will not let one die because its owner can't afford the treatment. As soon as offices open, use your phone to get help for your cat. You might even offer to leave some sort of collateral with the vet as assurance they will be paid. Just making that offer will make an impression. Most people are in a spirit of giving right at the moment. You may be able to catch a lot of people in a giving mood because of the season. You owe it to the cat to give these things a try.
EnigmaXOXO Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Vixen, You can also telephone a local veterinarian and describe the symptoms. If you explain that you are not in a financial position to afford costly treatments, they will either offer to examine your pet for free or direct you to another service. The symptoms you described can mirror any number of feline health problems...from worms, thyroid, leukemia, kidney/liver disease or FIV. Rapid loss of weight, extended belly, vomiting, listfulness, loss of appetite, behavior changes (soiling home and not using litter box)...are all signs that something is drastically wrong. My own buddy of twenty years began showing these SAME symptoms three weeks ago. Of course, she was 20 years old and her body was simply shutting down. She had a brief period of recovery, but finally passed away on December 10th. So I understand whole heartedly the grief of losing a long-time companion. But your kitten is still young, so what you are seeing is the result of illness and not old age. It's important at this time that your kitten receive lots of attention and affection. Believe it or not, its often what gives them the will to survive. (s)he may need to have an IV to replace the fluids lost if (s)he is not drinking water. It's sounds difficult, but it is a relatively simple thing to do once a veterinarian has shown you how. Most importantly, you will have to get her in for a diagnosis and blood test. Otherwise, (s)he will only get worse. And believe me...its a terrible, terrible thing to watch. Felines are stoic, and rarely show signs of pain, but when you witness them suffering as I did, its an image you will not soon forget. It's just awful!! Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Author vixen Posted December 25, 2003 Author Posted December 25, 2003 well i called like 15 vets and no one would take me on a payment plan, and those who would said they can't take me because they're closed for xmas. on a good note, the feretone i've been stuffing down his throught has caused him to eat again, and he is pooping healthy too, so it's not a blockedge. Dr. Rice said he'd take Cloud on friday, so we are going to do some blood tests on him. He thinks he might have distemper. but my x-mas is brighter becouse my baby is eating again. Vixen (i dont give a rats patoot about spelling this morning )
ifebuche Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 Sometimes it is better to look ahead and see what reality has for someone. I tell really that yout kitten doesn't even know that you are not well over it's condition. I admit that sometimes or may be for others, all times, we should have pets, all the same we have to face reality. Animals don't have any imaginative, not to say the least, intellective knowledge. there's end in the sensitive. I am not happy that you are not feeling so good about the whole situation, and happy any way that you have gotten better with an improved Cloud and a helpful Dr. .... But, don't you think you need to address your attention to a being with the correct knowing? OK, may be I'm not in touch with your feelings and humans can't be trusted (Which is same worldwide, not even me, would I say you? OK), but animals are animals and should care for and not killed for. I hope your Cloud gets better soon and make your Xmas merrier. Ciao.
Tony T Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 "God Bless Dr. Rice!" I just read on another post that you were Pagan. I wish for Dr. Rice whatever Pagans wish for people who have done nice things for them!!!
Author vixen Posted December 28, 2003 Author Posted December 28, 2003 lol, don't think you've offended me. My mother goddess is the protector of all animals. She is to whom i prayed to for a bit of help for cloud. And yes i did healing spells. He's eating like his usual self now, and gaining his weight back. I still need to call doctor rice and ask him his advice. When people say "God bless" or the like, i look at it as a compliment. I don't fallow that god, no, but that doesn't mean that deity doesn't exist, it just means that deities laws can't affect me. It's the simple classic law of, things only have power over you if you belive they do. So i took your blessing as sweet, and i was happy that you were so thrilled that Dr.Rice is a kind man. Technically it was him you blessed not me. Cloud is still under the weather and not feeling quite up to snuff, this is why i have to call Dr. Rice still. But hey the cats on the arm chair watching me type this right now. I switched there cat food and both my felines swarmed to it and ate it like they hadn't eaten in days. I think the food was bad or something. I got them some meow mix with seamiddles instead. They are in kitty heaven.
ifebuche Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 well. Seems like you are contented with your meows and neighs. Aristotle says that the good for fish is water, for plants light, and for humans, happiness. then what we do to get it is different branch of Moral Phil. Yours seems to be in these. I believe in a religious God, yes, though I study philosophy. I believe too in reason and I find it hard to do things that I cannot convince somebody to do. I mean that your haapiness is important and that is what I should want.
