TwinkletOes26 Posted December 29, 2009 Share Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) Ive seen several threads about people having issues when having to move back home for whatever reason usually a valid one like divorce,unable to find work,needing to save money ect ect ect....what i dont get is why is it that its parents who often make a horrible situation worse? Yes i know there are plenty of disrespectful people who take advantage of their parents but sometimes you will see situations where its the PARENTS taking advantage of the fact the their adult child had to move home or be on the street. I hardly ever hear of friends treating each other in such a manner.Anytime any of my college buddies complains about how they were treated when depending on someone the worst stories never come from someone who let them crash on the couch until they could get things together its usually from when they were at home. I never hear of friends not letting them sleep in on saturday,giving them a curfew when they are clearly too old for one, who they can or cant date,or telling them where they are allowed to go. So why is it that so often SOME parents do this? Is it because they havent adjusted to the fact that their little boy or girl isnt so little anymore?Is it about control?Is it to make sure that they move out?Do they get pleasure out of doing these things? Now again I know there are people who are disrespectful and take full advantage of their parents but I see the type of behavior I described above even if the adult children are saints. Most people want to be independent and live their own lives but sometimes there are road blocks and life throws you curve balls so I dont understand the point in making a bad situation worse by making life hard....... Disclaimer: I am not saying ALL parents do this but some do. I understand that its their house their rules but Im speaking asking that you take a look at the other side how the adult child feels as well. Its not like they wanted to lose their job,get a divorce,or have trouble finding work. They often feel guilty about having to move home so to make life hell is just a little extra is all im saying.
