I'm on here because I'm a bit worried that I may have memory issues and I want to go to a doctor to get checked or talk to him but I'm scared he'll tell me something I dont want to hear and then I'll have this bigger weight on my shoulders.

Anyways- Im hoping that through this posting I will be able to get further insight from other people perspective.

Why I think i have memory issues:

- Have a difficult time remembering movies. I remember generally the main ida of the movie but find it hard to remember details unless ive seen the movie muliple times.

- I remember being places or doing things with friends but can't remember specific details as well. like what we talked about or things like such ( many cases like this throughout my life)

- It's been a few years since HS but for my classes I hardly remember what we did in class or talked about, only maybe a few things i can remember from in the classroom from HS.

anyways- a lot of things like this where i can remember that i have seen or done something but cannot get the details of it in my memory. I am worried because I am only 22 and I feel like this could be something very detrimental to my future...

What do u think? is this a bit too not normal? should i get checked?

thanks

I don't think you need to get checked (although it is preferable that you do, because everyone here gives their PERSONAL opinions; a certified doctor is much more reliable).

In my opinion, I think you are just absent minded. It is a very common, and increasing social problem for many people in our day. If you did have a memory problem, you would not remember any of the experience you had; however, you remember most things, it's just the details that escape you. Details however, are remembered by attention and interest. As I see it, you are just not paying enough attention to the details and therefore comes your problem.

What I would recommend you do, is a) get a book on how to improve your observational skills and memory usage and b) see a doctor anyway.

Also, you might want to try and add some herbal supplements into your life. These include Ginko Biloba - increases oxygen supply to the brain and makes you more aware.

Perhaps fix up your diet - eat healthy things, vegetables, try to cut down on drugs (coffee, smoking, alcohol, etc. they all affect memory).

Exercise during the day, as it improves the overall performance of everything, including the sharpness of the mind. Try to sleep better (not more hours, but deeper sleep.). I am not going to explain the whole process of how - if you follow this advice, research it yourself.

Most importantly, however, is pay attention. Tell yourself to remember things, and when you see yourself watching something, talk in your mind, about the details. Picture them bigger than they really are, etc. Just train yourself to remember.

Good luck with all of that,

Hope I helped,

Dan.
