This is probably a silly concern, and hell, it's not even summer over in the East US anyway, but my bf says to me, he could imagine us at the beach together with him wearing speedos. Immediately I say, yes you and me at the beach sounds great, but with speedos on..uh, uh...:eek:

Now mind you, he has a fantastic body: 6'4", great abs, all muscle, V back, sexy as they come, but truthfully, in recent years, I haven't seen any heterosexual, relatively young men wearing speedos at the beach where we live anyway. Big baggy trunks seem to be the thing now. I say, 'maybe in Miami this would work' or CA where I would be anything goes.

I say to him, 'what if you were the only one wearing them', he said that he'd prefer that. Mind you this man lacks no confidence.:) I don't mind attention personally, but at the same time I'm style conscious.

What do you guys think? Am I worried about nothing? It should be his business if he looks out of style and gets snickers, and not a reflection on me right? Or are heterosexual men with good bodies still wearing these?

Mankinis are generally not worn in the US, unless on a beach where there are a lot of foreigners. Tell him if he wants to wear those, he has to take you to the French Riviera. :lmao:

Yes, it's a silly concern. But yes, people will notice and people will snicker behind his back. We'd like to think we're above all that, but...not so much.

Tell him you don't want women ogling his package. That it would make you feel uncomfortable to have his privates on display like that.

But if he really wants to wear it, there's nothing you can do. Don't turn it into a big issue. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks and enjoy the view!

I'm pleased with my body, but I wouldn't wear a speedo...it makes me look like I'm too pleased with myself.

A few years ago I watched a group of punks harass a turkey wearing speedos. He deserved the ridicule but didn't deserve the beating they gave him.

I appreciate the advice, and just as I suspected, speedos are out. I don't think anyone would attempt to beat him up though-he can look intimidating. I think I'll take Jane's advice and tell him I don't want anyone looking at his package and offer him some nice swim trunks.

I lived in Europe for a few years, and pretty much all men wear Speedos there. And they are HOT. The prevailing opinion over there is that any guy who wears trunks looks like kind of a schmo. :lmao:

I would LOVE to see my guy in a Speedo at the beach. What's not to love? :D

I saw a shirt once, many years ago, that said "Friends don't let friends wear Speedos". I almost bought it since my exh (H at the time) insisted on wearing one everytime we were out on the boat.

No one ever beat him up over it, or even said anything (to his face ha!) but it was just a tad bit embarrasing even though he had a nice body. Just pure arrogance.

Do you have the same complaint about women who wear bikinis?

No, I don't. But bikinis are common...speedos on guys in my group, location, part of the world is not. It would be more like a group of women wearing regular clothes and one of them wearing only a bra and panties. Doesn't really fit in.

Thanks Ruby!

He does have a gorgeous body, and I immediately get aroused when I see him in his speedo like underwear(bikinis for men?), but that's in the bedroom. What if he gets aroused on the beach? His johnson literally goes over to his hip bone.:eek::o What ogling there would be, and probably not just from women! Lol.

Obviously, I'm more self-conscious than he is, and maybe this is my problem, not his. Concerns about the fashion police or what other people think shouldn't enter my mind at my age(mid 40s). Still, I'm one of those people who believe that there are certain things a woman in my age group shouldn't wear either, like mini skirts for example.:o

So basically what you're saying is it's not embarrassing or arrogant for women to run around half way naked because society finds that acceptable.

Do you go swimming half naked or do you leave your shirt on?

What I think about bikinis or women who wear them is irrelevant to this conversation about Speedos. I personally think they (Speedos) look ridiculous. End of story.

You thinking they look ridiculous was not the issue -- it was you saying that the guy wearing one is arrogant. So, it's arrogant for a man to do something that shows off more of his body that most men don't do, but not arrogant for a woman to do the same because lots of women do?

That's like saying it's not unethical to break and enter if you live in the 'hood because more people in the 'hood break and enter. A vice (such as arrogance) is a vice, no matter what circumstances or offenders surround the culprit.
