Thanks everyone for the help and reality checks earlier this week re: my guy friend who doesn't believe men and women can be platonic friends. Yet he was friends with me while dating someone else.

I was trying really hard to get distance from him, to get some space but he wasn't cooperating.

Well, the last few days we've both been on the road in different parts of the world and it's been really great to have no contact. Longest in a long time. I expect I'll see him next week when we're both back home but I have definitely moved on.

I'm hoping he has moved on as well and we can both get on with things once we're back home. (things = our lives without drama.)

Thanks again everyone!

You werent interested in this guy in the beginning of your "friendship".

Did you suddenly become interested in him when he started dating his gf 3 weeks ago?

When we first met I was freshly out of a bad breakup and not really available. While I always liked him as a person I grew interested in him through our bonding, being there for one another, etc. and my feelings grew over time.

Him starting to date this girl did trigger something in me. But I think it was a combination of that, of starting to be open to someone besides my ex and to how close the "friend" and I had grown.

Have followed this saga and I think it's good to have the distance. Sometimes things just get out of control. We've all been there! It will be interesting to see what he does now that you've moved on. Guys aren't as good at that type of thing and he might be more interested. Oh well.

If he's a disciplined type, I'll bet he's moved on. If he's metro, probably not - yeah that's a generalization - but there's probably some truth to it.

What exactly is a metro?

Refers to a more feminine guy from the city - gets the pedicures, is very fashionable etc. Nothing wrong with this, if a guy likes these things, he likes them.

Haha definitely not metro. City guy but more of a guy's guy.

Thanks for the input!
