carhill Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I have to say that I rather spend my money on 'moisturizers' and night creams... I must say my stbx taught me the value of this, especially quality products. Her skin looks amazing for a 50 year old and I've beat mine up over the years working in the shop with all the harsh chemicals. So, yeah, I moisturize religiously, even when traveling. Having been around the 'industry' for a decade, I have no illusions about the 'cost' of beauty and staying current with mainstream style. It's a choice each of us make. With choices, there are costs and responsibilities. Choose wisely
MissJoness Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 The only way you can get any type of respect and acknowledgement in this world especially from men---and if you are looking for somebody---is to dress up. Men are nicer to you, they strike up a conversation with you. They are even more helpful to you in department stores. It feels good. When I dress up and wear a lot of makeup and hair, I feel like I have more self worth. But when I dress down and cover up I might as well be invisible.
carhill Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 The other side of the coin is would you find a man who approached you when not 'beautiful' to be unattractive simply because of your own self-perception? I believe one of our LS'ers had this happen to her, where a drop-dead gorgeous guy chatted her up when she was in grunge mode (no makeup, sweats, pony-tail, etc). I think it was Ruby Slippers.... Anyway, food for thought. Worthiness, an interesting subject

I think it is more realistic versus the magazine beauty. Beauty can come in all forms.

Beauty can come in all forms. I agree, but her perspective was that she was 'unbeautiful'; her self-image at the time colored her perception of the dynamic.
