Hey HOT woman,

no one cares. Enjoy being hot. And don't complain about it.

Yeah I would...

if I could AFFORD it.

This stuff can get expensive. I wish more guys knew that the ladies that they pause and stare at walking down the street had to put money down to get that way.

It's subjective and I know that many of you might say, "I don't care about all of that stuff!" but trust me, your eyes do.

I shared a bathroom with my sister while growing up. And I am also sure most men who lived with a woman are aware that all this stuff costs money, and maybe even more importantly, even know that it exists.

Honestly, I have no idea how much it costs and I also don't know how much make-up a woman has to wear to look "good but natural". It's all Greek to me.

I am pretty sure those efforts to look like good are taken for granted often enough. Perhaps even expected by some men. So I can understand a certain frustration with men's ignorance on this topic. If that is the reason why you started this thread, you have my support. We men should take more time to appreciate (or at the very least acknowledge and appreciate) such efforts.

However, if your concern is that is costs you so much money, then things are a bit different. Men have costs too when it comes to dating. And I am pretty sure that many women would use those products for themselves, even if there was no man around.

hey at least you can wear makeup. Men can't wear makeup without looking like a fool, and if you're an ugly man no one gives you attention at all.

I knew someone would list off the things you did, and believe me the difference will show, hence what you said in the end that I quoted.

Not trying to be disrespecful towards you but yes you can definitely cut corners and do it the super economic way but the difference will show.

In what the OP is talking about I think she's right, the "look" takes a lot of dough!

i am not just someone...... :o:D

i get what she is saying...... it takes a certain amount of money to get this certain look.... if you want this look.

and some guys do not know what it takes- and the costs associated and why every woman does NOT look like a million bucks.

i have other piorities.

Thanks for the imput! :)

And most smart ladies know how to cut corners and save money when it comes to things like this. But I'm calling it what it is - cutting corners. yeah, I wax at home and do my own eyebrows, but it's cutting corners to save money. Just to be sexist: It's like your uncle getting a deal for you on an engine that would cost you twice as much new, but it works just as well! (hahaha!)

When women do not have to cut corners, this is how much this stuff costs.

Not to mention, It is harder for men to cut corners on the cost of clothing because there is so little of it for sale in the first place. I went shopping with a guy a while ago and looked at a completely normal brown jacket...300 dollars. WTF?!

And yeah, society tells guys that they can't wear makeup. I'm aware of how much that sucks the other way around.

Aww you are very sweet Stockalone!!

I think we women like to be complimented when we get dolled up mostly because we do put effort into it. It's so much easier to go out in whatever you grab from the closet first as you hop out of bed, but who wants a frump by their side? I wouldn't if I was a guy, maybe I am thinking like a woman.

Seriously, you spend all that? I usually have a french manicure, and pretty much hairless (apart from my head obviously, lol!), eyebrows always tweezed, spray tan, pedicure, regularly have a face pack treatment, hair treatment once a week....I wear make up every day but not so much, and asfar as lipstick goes, I usually wear tinted lip gloss which is cheap but very lovely and moisturizing.

BUT - big but....I do ALL of those treatments myself at home. So they cost very little. I'd personally think it's crazy to pay someone else to do all that. The only thing I fork out for is my highlights because I won't mess with that myself.

It's my way of pampering myself...it's lovely to take a hot relaxing bath, and go for some of these treatments and just chill out with a movie and a glass of wine. I don't see why that would make me shallow at all - I just enjoy taking care of myself (I also eat well and exercise a lot - important to me to look after the inside and outside of my body). Personally I just couldn't imagine spending a lot of my hard earned cash on all that, though.

I don't think that's shallow at all - I think it's thrifty and I do the same kind of thing. I don't get my nails done because of guitar, but you better believe that they eyebrows are done by yours truly! :D

Face pack, hair treatments, fake n bake and nail polish prices have gone up quite a bit though...but yeah, lip gloss is still cheap.

LOL

Are you serious?

Complimenting women just makes them even more arrogant and self-centered. Plus you are only the feeding the beast, their need for validation, and the beast never gets full.

I don't even want to know how much money I've spent over these years since I started puberty on products to repair my acne-prone, hyperpigmented complexion to the point where I don't have to spend yet more money trying to find a foundation or cover-up that matches my skin color. I've done an admirable job and do go natural on my face. Being able to go literally barefaced and look nice can be just as expensive as regularly painting your face, if not more so.

hehe, my solution is never buy new clothes. When my clothes disintegrate spontaneously, then I'll get new clothes (probably second-hand, not new).

You're right Kizik. The next time you see a hot girl, just go up to her and say "I know what you're up to, you arrogant self-centered beast. If you want to know what I think: The highlights in your hair look like a waste of money, just like talking to you is a waste of my time!"

I promise, since women love *******s and players, that she'll probably sleep with you.

Give it a try!

Uhuh, because you don't like receiving compliments from women, you are self-sufficient like that?

Why are women complaining about maintenance and men complaining about paying the tab for first dates?

This world has gone mad.

Are you serious?

Absolutely. I am arrogant (or foolish) enough to think that the reason why a woman makes an effort to look good on a date, is me.

And I really appreciate the natural/low key look. If that means the woman has to just wash her face with water or put on make-up is not important. I honestly don't know how much effort that takes.

But I'll compliment her when I think she looks good. Why wouldn't I tell her that she looks good when she does?

If her make-up looks like a drunk hooker put it on with a shotgun filled with rainbow-colours, I am not going to compliment her.

As long as they don't seek validation from other men, I don't mind. And I am not complimenting them to feed their ego either.

Why is spending money on yourself shallow? I enjoy quality products and I enjoy getting my hair and nails done, that doesn't mean that I lack depth or value only the superficial

Don't get me started on how much black women usually spend on their hair products - sometimes hundreds of dollars a month.

you really need to stop making sweeping generalizations about black women. Not every black woman wears a weave, nor spends hundreds of dollars a month on hair care products. Get the *** out of here with that. The shampoo/conditioners that I buy for my hari lasts me for 3-6 months and does not cost me a few hundred dollars every month. Unless I have 6 heads on my shoulders I really do not see why any woman would continuously shove out hundreds of dollars a month. that is highly inaccurate and I've worn just about every hairstyle under the sun

Maybe the women who are high maintenance and spends money on high end remy hair may spend a lot, but that is for any race of woman into that kind of thing

Yeah you're right, it's not my place to say that.

I think that has a lot to do with perceived stereotypes or personality traits that accompany things like our appearance.

There is a type of woman I avoid like the plague because I think they are high maintenance and shallow/materialistic, even though that doesn't have to be the case at all.

Why are women complaining about maintenance and men complaining about paying the tab for first dates?

I thought that wasn't what this thread is all about. But if we want to argue about that in a not really serious gender war debate, I'd have some outrageously smug complaints.

Skin care, skin care products, waxings, nails, make up, clothes, shoes, accessories, hair cuts, hair color, hair products.........

And that's just the basics! And I spoil myself. It's normal to drop $100 at the make up counter, or for skin care products, or at the hair salon... not for a lot of junk but for quality pieces. When I go shopping for a new outfit, I expect to pay a three digit number.

And these are all regular expenses.

It's not so much the cost of beauty as the cost of vanity. And I don't consider myself a superficial person, I'm just an average young woman doing the average routine. There's plenty soul behind this face.

Oh well. Don't know where I'm going with this. It IS a shame to spend so much money on "beauty" products and services........

but it's only money. lol. oh, and a little time.

It's worth it. :p

I think I prefer to think of it as "the cost of elegance"....

Well it is superficial to primp. That's FACT.

I'll openly admit that I'm high maintenance when it comes to primping, loving being spoiled with spa treatments, whether at the spa or at home.

What's not necessarily the case, is that materialism is equal to superficiality.

In order for women to want men to appreciate their efforts, means they're doing their primping only for someone else, hence why they resent it, if guys don't appreciate it. But why do this shyte for someone else? Do it for yourself and if you don't enjoy it, don't do it, since it's just a false front you're putting up, one that will come crashing down when in a secure LTR. This creates disillusionment, loss of interest and eventually, you'll get dumped.
