norajane Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I've noticed a weird (I think) tendency for some posters to use the word females instead of women. "I try to talk to females when I meet them at parties..." "You can't always tell when a female is interested..." "I've taken a few females to dinner and..." It always makes me laugh because it makes it seem like a reference to another species or something out of an anthropology or biology discussion. I never think of men as males in casual conversation. I'd never say something like, "the males I've dated have...". Is this funny to anyone else? Is there a correlation between those who use the females terminology and dating success or failure? Do men who think of women as females see women differently than men who think of females as women?
threebyfate Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 nj, too funny! A form of depersonalization.

I'd never say something like, "the males I've dated have...". It does seem weird. But I always refer to a friend who is a woman as a female friend, never as just a friend. I'd have to check, but I don't think I ever used females and women synonymously. Is this funny to anyone else? Is there a correlation between those who use the females terminology and dating success or failure? Do men who think of women as females see women differently than men who think of females as women? I am not sure if you can go as far as deducing success or failure based on that alone. That said, I think failure is right around the corner if a man calls women "females". Then again, that also depends on what is seen as success and what is considered a failure. It could be used to emphasize a lack of understanding when it comes to women. Women: a.k.a. "Females - The Great Unknown", I just don't understand them. Although that seems rather unlikely. It probably is meant as a depersonalization (like TBF said). Maybe even a dehumanization. Calling women females makes them less than my equal, so I am less of a jerk (or no jerk at all) when I only use them for sex. It could be one of those PUA things, they have their own names for everything.
Author norajane Posted November 30, 2009 Author Posted November 30, 2009 nj, too funny! A form of depersonalization. Yes, why yes it is. I've found it very sexy to use "The Homogametic Sex" when referring to ladies. See, now that is sexy - men with strong vocabularies are highly attractive! And men with a sense of humor are even sexier. It does seem weird. But I always refer to a friend who is a woman as a female friend, never as just a friend. I'd have to check, but I don't think I ever used females and women synonymously. When differentiating, it doesn't strike me as strange. Saying a female friend, or female roommate, clearly is for clarification and doesn't sound like you are setting her apart for observation in her natural habitat or for dissection purposes. I am not sure if you can go as far as deducing success or failure based on that alone. That said, I think failure is right around the corner if a man calls women "females". I'm actually leaning toward the "Lack of Understanding" or depersonalization, but I hadn't even thought of the dehumanization possibility. That said, I think failure is right around the corner if a man calls women "females". This strikes me as having some truth. I'll define success as someone who is comfortable in social situations with women and is able to develop emotionally and intellectually intimate relationships without undue struggle. I really do wonder if men who set women apart as females feel truly comfortable or awkward around women.

I like that definition, although it would classify me as a failure. Well, at least I don't call women females. I really do wonder if men who set women apart as females feel truly comfortable or awkward around women. I think it could go either way. Feeling and/or being awkward around women would probably be the case for the majority of them though.
bayouboi Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Is there a correlation between those who use the females terminology and dating success or failure? I use the term "women" and almost never use the term "female" and I assure you I have an equal or greater failure rate with women as the guy who calls them "females"
threebyfate Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Just for fun, I think I'm going to start using the word "males" to replace men, boys or guys. "The bitter males in some LS threads aren't very impressive, when they disgorge bile into the threads. It's no wonder they fail at dating and relationships." I'm not seeing any of this, in this thread. Nice to see a civilized thread.

laRubiaBonita Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 i always thought it is because a lot of guys tend to use the term "girls"... i was talking to this girl..... so female would make girl sound older..... not as old as woman, but older than girl.

Right, kind of a "quasi-girl" or "proto-woman". You broads are cracking me up.

Males and females, and men and women, all have their trials and tribulations when it comes to the opposite sex! At least you have a sense of humor about it.
Ody Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 It's the passive aggressive alternative to "whores". I've seen the word "males" used as well on boards actually, less common though. I think we should all settle on "scrotums" and "vulvas".

So, like Britney Spears...no longer a girl, not yet a woman...

Vulvae?
Ody Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Hmm, are those really the Latin plurals? Scroti? Scrota? Vulvae? LOL having taken 5 years of Latin, I can confidently say please, let's all stick with English on this board.
StalledGirl Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Some men online are so bitter that they should just call us "The enemy"
