So about ten minutes ago, in somewhat of a random mood, I decided to book a cruise for the Christmas week...by myself...just for the hell of it...hopefully it can make me happy again...

I'm just afraid that I'll be sad and mopey the whole time because my ex and I went on a cruise about a month into dating...(don't worry, we already had known each other from years ago from undergrad...) and it was the greatest vacation I'd ever been on, and it brought us so much closer together...and it was her first real vacation of any kind...so I know it was really special to her too...I don't know how hard it'd be to pretend to be happy there...I guess enough booze would do the trick...

I don't know, I suppose this is one of those spur of the moment decisions...live in the present...

Hey- last year, on a whim, I booked a trip to Florida from Dec22-28.

I had just broken up with someone and I had hated x-mas since my divorce years before. It was liberating- I had the best time.

I spent x-mas day on Fort Myer's Beach Florida, in my bikini, 90 degrees out, happy as ever. I'd do it again this year if my new job didn't require me to be around.

Do it- it's liberating.

LOL, a cruise ship is like the no-tell motel on the water. Have fun :)

With the travel economy what it is, the single supplement is essentially irrelevant. Tons of seven day cruises for a hundred bucks a day single.....the only thing I hate about a cruise ship is getting off of it...

And if you get lucky, just resist the temptation to stand at the bow of the boat and scream "I'm king of the world" things went to h#ll on the boat after that.

No, the worst part about the cruise is looking on the TV checkout screen on the last day to see how much poorer you just became...

D-Lish - yea, I'm hoping it'll help me get my mind off things and just have a good time...

Gray Clouds - I stand at the foot of my bed with arms stretched out and scream that...every night...

My stbx and I usually brought our own booze and explored on our own, so our screen (or paper bill, before screens) was pretty painless. I remember, one time, after doing a 7 day transat for 299pp and checking out for under 100 bucks, we spent 250+ for a hotel night in NYC before heading home.

Interesting, even in the midst of divorce, I can remember the good times and smile. We had a blast :)

Don't forget your snorkel gear ;)

I'm not saying this is why your relationship sank like the Titanic, but...

(I kid, I kid) ;)

Have a good time

You know what? Even if you're sad on the cruise it's no big deal. Use the time to grieve if you have to. It can still be beneficial even if you're sad. There's no pre-determined timeline.

I think that's a fabulous idea!! One of my favorite vacations ever was a cruise by myself through the Panama Canal, from Florida to San Francisco. I had such a good time, and although there were times it might have been fun to be with someone, there was something really nice about being able to do whatever I felt like doing in any given moment. I met some really great people too.

I thought this was kind of funny, I went to the gathering of "solo travelers," thinking I could meet some cool people to hang out with on the shore excusions. But the room was filled with about 20 other women and one guy -- all the women were there to meet men, and no one was really interested in talking to me. I was the only one who was actually traveling alone. So you'll probably have really good odds!

I did end up spending a little *quality time* with one of the waiters though, and that was kind of fun. I hope he didn't get fired.

So where ya going?

Bahamas for 4 days leaving from Miami...the price was right, so I figured why not...and I've heard that the odds are generally better for guys on cruises...surprisingly enough...not sure I agree with that in my experience, but eh well...I'm just afraid that I may be a little young (25) for the general crowd...

Now I just have to fiendish work on my girlish figure...

Solo holidays are fantastic for the soul. Plus going into the sunshine sounds great.

I think you said 4 days? perfect. 7 days might have started to drag a biT.

I did a 2 day holiday this summer and it was a bit too short. Could have used an extra couple days.

Bring a camera!

I'm kinda jealous. I'm thinking of going to aruba sometime between Jan and May with my son. Still just a concept, but I'm liking it!

So you'll be able to choose from all the women your age, plus a boat load 'o cougars. Nice. ;)

I went to guatemala and mexico on a cruise. It was a great decision. Thier was beach and girls and tequila.......it was awesome.

MOst importantly, it got me out of the ****ty mood I had been in dwelling on her.

It was the start of real healing.....it forced me to realize thier is much more to living!
