DenverBachelor Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Rome continued to try and get through Troy's walls but it never worked. The harder they tried, the more defensive the Trojan army became. Rome continued one thing after another, but they just couldn't sack Troy. Rome's persistence irritated Troy and made Troy more defensive. Troy was pushing Rome away. Then, one day, Rome said screw it and went NC. They didn't try pushing into Troy for a long time. Rome gave Troy all the space it needed to heal and forget about Rome. Troy eventually developed fond memories of Rome and actually considered reconciliation with Rome. After Rome got over not needing Troy anymore, they built a large horse as a gift for Troy. Little did Troy know that Rome had a plan. Troy, because of the time and space given, happily accepted this large horse. Troy's defences were down and Rome was able to slip inside the heart of Troy and release the cargo, which was a Roman Legion. Troy then had no other choice but to succumb to Rome. Get it?
red_cloud Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Denver, seriously.. you ARE the man for me.

Good story, but wasn't it Greece that was trying to invade Troy?
johan Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 It was the Macedonians, I'm pretty sure. Alexander the Great.
red_cloud Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Actually, wasn't the whole fight started over Helen of Troy?
Author DenverBachelor Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Good story, but wasn't it Greece that was trying to invade Troy? You are correct. Rome was Troy's rebound I guess. There were probably a lot of cities trying to get into Troy.
Von Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Great post. I get everything but what the large horse alludes to
lilbelle Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 proof that even when all you do is fight when they are gone you miss them and want them back
SushiOji Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Great post. I get everything but what the large horse alludes to It alludes to herpes
Slainte Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Wow. Took a while for people to realise Rome had nothing to do with the seige of Troy, that it was indeed the Greeks who waged the war. A horse representing Herpes? How does an STI make you "succumb" to someone else

A horse representing Herpes? How does an STI make you "succumb" to someone else It's "destruction" disguised as a "gift" reference. Something seems awesome at the time when your defences are down- then it infiltrates you, and you're ****ed. So yeah, a cool horse becomes a relentless pimple on your genitals.

skreen23 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Nah, it was an alliance of greek cities lead by sparta. After an assault that failed on the walls of troy the greeks settled in for a siege that lasted, i think, 10 years. Eventually the greeks did the whole trojan horse thing and put all the male inhabitants to the sword, burned the city to the ground and enslaved the few surviving women and children. One of romes founding myths have them as survivors of the destruction of Troy (alah Battlestar Galactica). The other roman founding myth is the whole Romulus/Remus story. God i'm anal about my classical history Simply put the whole trojan war story is Girl leaves Spartan Husband for sexy trojan prince. Spartan husband goes to war, destroys trojan city, vows to kill his cheating wife. On seeing his wife's beauty he spares her and they live happily ever after. See Menaleus got back with Helen using genocide. Intersting tactic.
threebyfate Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 The sacking of Troy, was all over female vanity and male pride. How incredibly stupid!
skreen23 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Nah, the trojan horse thing is a myth, the whole thing was over trading rights through the hellespont. Same way the invasion of iraq over weapons of mass destruction is a myth, the whole thing is about geo-politics and access to oil. ANyway the ancient greeks had weird idea about women, you ask an ancient greek about getting back with your ex he'd probably advise forget her and have sex with a prostitute or an underage boy/girl. Crazy greeks, great architects though.
