Are you a Marine then, USMCHokie?? That tells a lot about who you are. That shows character, and quality. You are a strong man, Marine.

Have confidence! It's not about looks, okay? It's about that inner strength, inner character... it's about how you live your life and who you are.

Find strength, live your life and be proud. THAT builds confidence. We females are attracted to a man's confidence.... to a confident man.

It's not about looks. Take care of yourself, inside and out. That's all you need.

Are you a Klingon? Romulan? Confidence is what attracts women the most.

Actually, I'm a gnome.

But seriously though, I'm just your average neighborhood chinaman. Grew up being the only one in a predominantly (this would be an understatement...) white area. I was never socially awkward, but eventually all my friends had their girlfriends, so I got used to being 3rd/5th/7th/etc wheel. Didn't go on my first date until 23. I didn't mean to turn this into a discussion on race...it's just something I've grown up believing...kind of like religion...knowing and believing it while you grow up, it's hard to shake...

Joolie - yes, I'm a Marine. When it comes to everything not related to the fairer sex, I'm the confident alpha dog...I'm extremely proud of who I've become over the years, and I do take care of myself, both physically and mentally...not necessarily to attract women, but for myself...I think that everything should take care of themselves not for other people, but for themselves...

You're right, looks aren't everything, but they get you through the front door...and even if you're this amazing person with a good head and a good heart, it means diddly squat if you're standing outside on the porch...and us Asianfolk aren't exactly the American standard of attractiveness...and being good at math can only take you so far...:D

I quite like the front door/porch analogy. I, like you my friend, am asian, and think you are skewed by your predominant white neighborhood upbringing. Not all folks think like that, though I do find it odd that most asian countries think an attractive american is blonde hair blue eyes. However, I do agree that most people are attracted to looks first, regardless of race. Trust me, I've known many externally beautiful men and women, keep and sustain a lot more relationships than ordinary people with great hearts. Why is that? It's unfair but true. I just keep on telling myself, that if that's the case, I don't want to be with a woman who values beauty over anything else, because something nicer to look at will always come along.

In each and every guy thread, one of the predominant issues upon break up appears to be pride/ego, in a win/lose, wasn't good enough manner.

Stop it. This attitude is so detrimental. Get rid of that part, as fast as you can since it does nothing for you. If anything, it erodes on your self-esteem, especially if you're working towards moving on. Relationships aren't about winning or losing, where the end of it, is who trumps who. Start looking at your previous relationships from the perspective of learning experiences. Don't fail to remember that there were good times too, otherwise, why did you stay in them? But also, look at the bad times. Why did they happen?

A relationship doesn't define you as a person. You define yourself. All your positive traits are still within you and no one can take those away from you, unless you allow them to.

Lifes an open book, don't close it until it's done. Losing the one you love, like holding your dieing dog in your arms until it sleeps forever, or realizing that this world doesn't give a damn about you or your feelings, us men have to take it in equal parts, it's unavoidable, and honestly I can't imagine life without that kind of depth of emotion. This will pass too, and the future horizons stretch only as far as you're willing to go, but don't expect fate to not throw a few curveballs in your way.
