It's obvious, eh? I am a heavily tattooed woman. I started getting tattooed when I was 23, in an effort to overcome my own body hatred issues. I'd struggled with an eating disorder for a decade at that point, and I was searching for something that would help me feel comfortable in my own skin -- starving and overexercising weren't doing it. When I met my best friend, an incredible artist whose tattoos are as intricate and beautiful as her oil paintings, we started a journey together that has mostly healed my body image issues. It's not like "spray painting" anything; it's more like the detailed, loving artistry of the Sistine (correct spelling) Chapel as it currently exists. The same kind of care and passion has gone into it -- it took 103 hours, over the course of three years, to finish my right arm alone.

Getting tattooed has saved me. I am FAR more confident in my body now than I was when I was starving it and freaking out about it all the time, and I feel that makes me much more attractive than I was back then. I certainly feel much freer and laugh a lot more, and now I'm not one of those chicks who goes on a date and just orders a salad!

Sometimes there is much, much more to things than meets the eye.

Not obvious to all.

She asked me what I found unattractive. Those were two obvious examples to me.

Some guys love them. To each their own.

I don't think obvious was the right word. How you worded that statement made it sound like you were speaking for men in general.

Anyways..

Personally I think too many people are wrapped up and worried what the opposite sex thinks. Why do so many people concentrate on their flaws instead of their positive traits?

I find that I get way more positive attention from guys re: my artwork than negative. And you're right, you're certainly entitled to your preferences. But I do hope you'll have the opportunity someday to sit and really talk to a tattooed woman about her journey and her ideas of beauty!

(To anyone interested in learning about what a tattoo can really be, please check out the incredible work of artists like Anil Gupta, Guy and Hannah Aitchison, Denise de la Cerda, Tim Kern, and Emma Porcupine -- you can get lost in all of their websites for hours! They beautify bodies like nobody's business!)

I understand your point. And although perhaps not as extensive as I understand yours to be, I have dated girls with tats. Frankly youd be hard pressed to find a girl that doesnt have at least one these days.

And Im not rendering judgements as to the quality of the individual otherwise. I simply prefer the look of unmarked skin, most especially in that area. Something on that back for example wouldnt be as big an issue really.

As an aside. I really need to stop talking about pussy right now, because now its all I can picture in my head, and Im going to end up calling some random girl to come over then get stuck with the drama afterwards:)

If a person is insecure about their body to the point where they can't be uninhibited in bed, then there's a problem.

I am reading lots of posts about womens hang ups with their bodies and would like to know what men really think

Every single girl I know how certain issues with their bodies including me

My friend is obsessed with her cellulite and my other friend is obsessed with her boobs, another her fat vagina and I am sooo worried about my stretch marks after having my son

Now I have to say that every guy I have slept with has never had a problem with my stretchmarks but yet they make me feel sick.

so guys, what do you think? would a girls imperfect body turn you off?

There would have to be something really wrong to not turn me on.

I'm guessing this friend hasn't accurately assessed what is probably a tender morsel in the eyes of most men who have had the chance to behold its splendor.

what makes a vagina ugly? I think they are all ugly and not many look like the pornstar vaginas ... or do they?

Vaginas look ugly when they hang low like a wizard's sleeve.

But anyway, a woman's naked body to me is important. I like a woman who takes good care of her skin, a woman who is not too skinny, but has substance and curves but looks healthy.

Men will take what they can get but they are interested in women with perfect bodies. That's why so much of male media is just that, women with perfect bodies in a certain age range. THey don't want to see imperfection. Average guys think they deserve twin 18 year olds with implants.

Gosh, is it bad that I could predict that JS would turn up here, and also predict what she was gonna say with 80% accuracy? :o

Back on-topic, I think guys only mind to a certain extent. I'm sure guys have various turn-offs, the most common being perhaps obesity, skeletal thinness, and, unfortunately for me, skin disease. However, the bf has shown no, er, 'problems' with me, though, so I figure men aren't all that picky generally. :D

BS!!!

We prefer them natually large

JS, let's take two identical personality/traits/positive internal attributes men. One of the men is built like a greek god, with a face that women would sink a thousand ships to be with, and the other who has nervous twitches, has a harelip and has a barely discernible penis. Both treat you in identical fashion, loving and giving. Which would you pick?

That's correct, this is all about fantasy. Most individuals can separate fantasy from reality and once women realize this, life is so much easier.

Each woman is a sum of all her parts, internals and externals. If a man judges solely by externals, to the curb he goes. It's that simple.

my experience with men (in a general sense) is that they don't tend to notice or concentrate on a gals deficits when it comes to her physical traits. women do that more than men. :lmao:

men tend to appreciate good overall visual effects a woman can deliver... which includes clothes that accentuate her positive features and downplay her unattractive areas. some women are better at this than others.

i have found that men that are more mentally mature will appreciate a woman for her intelligence as well as her physical qualities which he admires - deficits and all - he is more adept at tuning in to the things he finds quality in - rather than noticing things she may find unattractive about her.

lesson learned - women - DO NOT point out things you dislike about your body to men... they probably will never notice what you do. they have their own personal preferences in viewing and interacting with women. some things they just don't need to know.

also, if a man is highly critical of LOTS of things - this should be a HUGE red flag that he will just be impossible to please - even given a woman with a perfect body. we cannot expect to please everyone - we only need to be accepting of ourselves... what they do with their own opinions is none of our business.

Who brought River and Joaquin Phoenix into this?

I kid, I kid...

To OP, stretch marks are completely irrelevant to me, as are other such minor imperfections that have been mentioned.

 At least Joaquin can act!

People who seek physical perfection in others, are usually compensating for their own physical imperfections.

I find this to be the truth.

I have some flaws that I am really insecure about, but what i have come to realize is that when I pretend they don't exist and that I am confident (even when I'm not) men don't pay much attention to them. Mostly, they can tell that you are still confident and it's a huge turn on for them.

LOL

Women are funny

This is what a guy conversation would go like at the beach

Tom "Dude put on a f'ing shirt, your fat hairy gut is disgusting.?

Bob " What do I care, I dont have to look at it. ....hey...that blonde over there is checking me out"

Someone needs to look in Cosmo. Womens mags are ALSO full of perfect women.

understand what effort goes into presenting the women in those magazines. here is a good example of how skewed a visual can look given makeup, camera effects and the use of computer alterations vs. reality.

As a very self-conscious guy, I have several of the same complexes about some of the same issues that women are often worried about.

As a result, I'm generally more accepting of girls with different bodies, it all depends, I'm not perfect and I know that my prospective mate isn't either. If we spend forever searching for perfection in ourselves or our partners, we'll never find it, so I've just gave up trying.

Vaginal appearance has never greatly affected me, as its only one part of a women's body and one part of the sexual process (I'm more a foreplay type of guy).

A woman's naked body is very important to a man!

Looks are part of her sexiness;this combined with a work ethic in bed lead to good sex!

I am usually much harder and last longer if I am really into a woman's body and she knows how to do her thing!

However, it is true that women fuss over certain things we just don't care about....like stretch marks!

Trial, you take two extreme cases and try to make some kind of outlandish point. I got to tell you, I am not hugely attracted to perfect looking men with stellar bodies and perfect Greek looking faces.

And I HUGELY disagree that people can seperate fantasy and reality as much as you you seem to think so. The whole reason people even buy into the feelings a fantasy cause is because their brains are tricked into believing the fantasy on some level. And most people do not know the man hours and work it takes to creat the fantasy. So no, I don't think people seperate fantasy and reality as well as they use to. Part of that is because of the overly extended media world we live in.

Here is another link:

I don't think men or women realize just how much photoshopping goes on. Just as the one woman says in this clip for women. But I think it's true for men too. Those small indentations in the waist that make a woman's hip look more defined, the extra enhanced bust lines....etc etc etc....People buy into that "fantasy". Men and women.

That has NOTHING to do with my comment.

how did i misinterpret your statement to look in cosmo for the perfect women? what we are seeing in the magazines in a false sense of perfection - a false sense of reality if those "perfect" women have been severely altered.

seriously? do you even read threads before spewing your diatribe? Seriously, go to the beginning of the thread. Read ALL the responses. Pay attention to the male responses. Then please report back to me what was said. I'll be interested in hearing the results.
