McGrupp Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) hey yall ive been hitting these meetings and they really make me feel better and look at the world differently. if your world has crashed b/c you were dumped you may want to check them out if you think they (the ex) was the cats pajamas and are having trouble letting go and blaming yourself for a lot of the breakup. i know not everyone thinks they are that, but some here def could use the support. google it... LostInLA Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I was thinking about checking this out. I looked at the site and part of the 12 steps seems rather geared towards religion, was this how your meeting was?

AliveAndKicking Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I was thinking about checking this out. I looked at the site and part of the 12 steps seems rather geared towards religion, was this how your meeting was? 12 step programs do suggest the use of a higer power. A power greater than one's self of your own choosing. They do not endorse any religion and have no opinion on outside issues. I've attended both AA and NA inthe past and found that while AA closed each meeting with The Lord's Prayer (I always wondered how they could justify this) NA did not. In either case, though I found them both to be very supportive regardless of or in spite of your beliefs. I suggest that if you're interested by all means go to a meeting. Don't be put-off by the use of the word "God" or "higher power". There is much more to it than that! Also- each meeting has it's own "personality" so if you don't care for one try another - one might "fit" better than another. 12 step groups are very much like LS. Like-minded people supporting one another. No "rules" and no official membership. No leaders, no "must-dos", very much up to the individual. Take what you need and leave the rest. Give it a shot- what have you got to lose? --------- McGrupp- Good for you! I am very proud of you for taking charge of your life and seeking assistance and support. Great job- keep up the good work!
LostInLA Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Thanks, I was just wondering if they are going to try to pound religion into my skull. I'm definitely open to attending a meeting to check it out!
