Els Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Know what I find -really- amusing? The sheer amount of men vs women bombarding I've been seeing around here. Feels like I'm back in primary school, with the girls taking sides against the boys, and vice versa. Real debates are fine, but don't you guys think this is rather like beating a horse that's been dead for months?

Comparing women to dead horses and suggesting to beat them, might not be the smartes thing to post here. You might get banned.
ChelleBear Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I completely agree!! These are all myths!! #1, women don't like or want sex as much as men do. What?? I've often outdone my partner's sex drive. I love sex, I want it almost all of the time, and it's something I strive to do to the best of my abilities. #2 Women aren't as visually stimulated or obsessed with looks as men are. Uh...no. I love watching porn, and I am always checking everyone else out. I very much enjoy watching other people, and taking in their physical beauty. We, as humans, are very aesthetic-loving creatures. #3 Women are more faithful. That one is virtually unquantifiable. But in my personal experience, I have been no more faithful than my partner. #4 Women are more relationship-oriented. Not true. Also, hard to quantify, but I've met just as many men as women that are not interested in a relationship at that time. And #5, Women are gentler? Sounds like some bs to rationalize being a douche.
SoulSearch_CO Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 The article turned me off when I saw his method of "researching" was searching for books on Amazon. Or even better: "Have you ever known a woman who..." Well, of course, Einstein. There will be exceptions to EVERY rule. That doesn't make it the NEW rule just because you knew somebody once that... Utter nonsense. Did he likewise do a search on Amazon for "male infidelity" to see how many more books on it there are than female infidelity? I do wholeheartedly agree with #5 - women are experts at psychological warfare. I agree with #1 in that women need/want it more than most will let on. It's the whole madonna/whore complex. But to say they need/want it as much as men? No - I don't agree with that. That has been biologically proven. Author needs to do REAL research outside of people he knows and Amazon. And I agree with #2 - that women can be just as shallow as men. I disagree with #3 and #4.
Johnny M Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Virtual high-five, Sistah! Sorry, but the irony of this statement is just too much. You complain about phrases like "give me a break" and glib one-word comments like "right?" "wrong!", and then you go ahead and throw in this little gem. Sistah!? Unless you're black, from the "hood" and have less than five years of formal education, you really have no excuse for using ebonics.
theBrokenMuse Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) I take this article with as much of a grain of salt as I would an article about men in some lame arse ladies magazine. This is a self proclaimed anti-mysandry zine, which means it has an agenda and is most likely going to be presenting biased material which makes it a horrible source to look for accurate information. Personally, I think that much of what was stated in this article was already common knowledge but it was presented in such a ridiculously overgeneralized and absurd fashion that I found it quite unpalatable. I can't believe this guy has had actual books published. Fifty bucks says he had a ghostwriter. Edited December 31, 2009 by theBrokenMuse

I'm not sticking up for Carrie, I know she's quite capable of taking care of herself. But this was annoying. The guy wrote an article - Carrie made a forum post. You don't see the difference? The guy claims to be a writer. You still don't see the difference? Ebonics is actually pretty popular across the board. I've seen all different class levels, ages, and genders use it. It's not that big of a deal. It's just like casual slang. Unless you're trying to write an article that you'd like to be taken with any degree of seriousness - then slang and Ebonics have no place. I mean, really.

I mean, really. Ebonics is possibly the dumbest cultural phenomenon ever. I can understand someone from Compton or Harlem mangling the English language because they didn't grow in an environment where proper English was spoken. But when I hear a white person say words like yo, homie, sistah, wazzup, and so on, I just want to slap the idiot. Whoever decided that's it's cool to speak like you've got a d!ck in your mouth?

I use it for humor's sake. And generally with people that already know I have a brain - so they get the humor. I don't use it in everyday, pleasant conversation. But when I'm comfortable with somebody, they get my sense of humor in general, I might slip out with something just for giggles. But then - I try not to take life too seriously. It's not like it's one big English exam. I don't know - the intelligent, witty man I'm dating doesn't seem to think I have a problem bad enough to send me off to finishing school, so I must be doing okay.
