Isolde Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 My understanding is that technically, most Jews (that is, Jews who have a long family line of being Jewish, as opposed to more recent converts or those who have intermarried) are white but they originated from roughly the same region in southwestern Asia, which is why they are often considered an ethnicity unto themselves although if you look at Ashkenazi vs. Sephardic Jews, there's a lot of differences in appearance with Sephardis looking much more middle Eastern. There's been some scientific debate about the validity of term "Caucasian," so I'm not sure if they'd be Caucasian or not, not like it matters.

These guys were great I think most of them must be academics or PHD's or something, they had all this wealth of knowledge about biology and history at their fingertips. Loads of passion too.
tami-chan Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Of course, the irony is, if he really wanted to boost his chances at the Ivies, certius paribus, he could hardly do worse than to marry an asian woman - unless his kid planned to claim "white" as his race, at least. Asian kids actually suffer reverse discrimination in college admissions (well documented). They're only admitted in disproportionate numbers because asian immigrants tend to work really hard, not because schools like them. :/ On a cold calculus of self-interest, he'd be far better off finding another Condie Rice. Smart + half black = Auto-admit at Harvard Law. that was my point....to double his kids chances he needs a wife who would raise his kids to work very hard to get into an IVY league school as opposed to being accepted because of affirmative action.

My alma mater is heavily populated with Asians and my department had like one or two black students who were gays. After college I met a really cute black guy who works for one of the congresspersons, but then he had a white girlfriend. What is it about black guys that you want to be asked out by them? or are you just wondering why they don't ever ask you out even if you are not attracted to them? I mean, some women believe they are universally attractive and might take it as an insult not to be asked out by one group...

Haha not to sound conceited or anything, but I think I may be universally attractive on some level. I've dated black, asian, hispanic, white, European, and african guys. But my preference is still for white guys usually, don't know why...

The guy I described in my initial post, the one with the Asian fetish, is black. I remember at first being surprised when I found this out because, like most people, I always thought that the tendency to fetishize Asian women lies more with white men. Anyway, I don't care about preferences, but I get angry when I hear things like "So what's it like to have sex with a (black, Asian, Indian, Latina, etc) woman?" and "You're the first (black, Asian, Indian, Latina, etc) I've dated/slept with". Like somehow the way we are in bed or relationships will dramatically differ from any other woman solely because of our race. Give me a break.

I don't really have an assumption and am simply curious. Isn't it a whole point of meeting new people? Maybe I'll figure it out after going out on a date. Personally, I find myself (a 23-year-old white male) attracted to girls of Asian descent (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc). However, this would normally get interpreted as an Asian fetish/"Yellow fever"/etc, but I've always had issue with this due to the fact that it implies a sexual objectification. However, I *do* find Asians more sexually attractive, but that is not the only reason I have that preference, and I wouldn't turn turn a girl of another race purely because of her ethnicity (an awesome girl is nevertheless awesome), but Asian features do carry a lot of weight for me. Regardless, what are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think Asian women get freaked out by such a preference? Is it really any different from someone who prefers tall men, or smart women, or men with blue eyes, etc -- when does it cross the line from an acceptable preference to an all-out creepy fetish, in your opinion? I don't knock you at all for being drawn to the physicality of asian women, but those who are drawn to the way that so much of asian culture thrives on treating females as second class citizens give me the creeps. I'm sure that some asian women get freaked out by such a preference. I recall the actress Lucy Liu having once been quoted as having said: "I won't date men who date only asian women" (which really made her look bad when she failed to make exception for asian men with that preference) Finally, it is not any different from those other traits when your preference relates only to physical features. If your interest in asians relates to enjoying treating women as second class citizens it isn't far from having a preference for women who have been victimized, so that you can victimize them again.

What gets my goat is people who prefer Asians because they have certain (rather deluded) ideas on how Asian women are more 'traditional' (insert personal preference of what 'traditional' means here - which, for most men, means a girl that will not only be submissive, do all the housework, and put her man before everything, but also give in to his 'manly urges' and have sex on the third date ).
