It might be a pie in a jar but I think it's darn cute! My family is big on southern hospitality so any chance they get to bake or cook something they're all delighted. Mathew said as long as he can take some on the honeymoon he's in! And just in case the canadians get hungry on the drive back, they'll have handy dandy pie in a jar!!! :lmao:

Honestly I'd love to do something crafty and homemade like that, but that means I'd have to bake 100 little pies in jars. If I decide to do it I'll have to enlist every family member and friend I know to help. Probably wont happen. But I can dream!

It's not that hard...

Enlist 5 family members that have their own kitchen. Have another family member or friend help them.

That's 20 pies each kitchen team. One person does the crust, the other one the filling.

Since they are so small, you will not need to prepare hugh portions, I'd say about 5 times the recipe for a normal pie would be more than enough. If you end up using the tiny jars, you might even need less. (Calculate before you do it!)

You can bake at least 10 of them at once, depending on the size of the oven.

So, all in all every kitchen team should be done with the pies in 2 hours. 3 at most.

You DO have a very good point there...hmmm...This idea is looking better and easier every minute. :)

Those are adorable but so much work. On the otherhand, you can make them ahead of time. You can also replace the leaf on top with a heart or something more love oriented. So cute!

They'll go from the oven straight to the freezer(you'd think it would bust, but apparently not), so making them ahead of time would be no problem.

But it is still just a pie in a jar..... sorry but I do not know what all the fuss is about

Well, for starters it's homemade, which means cheaper. We're going through immigration which costs a lot of money and planning this wedding isn't cheap. Our wedding is in an outdoorsy, country setting so the pies would go extremely well with the decorations and stuff. And lastly, who doesn't love pie? Sure I could buy them all trinkets that would end up on the floor or thrown away once they hit the first available rest stop, but pie? Nope, knowing his family and my family, they're gonna eat that.

Plus, I just think it's a thoughtful idea to give to them.

To be honest I just don't think they look particulary nice - just my personal opinion but each to their own

Just a thought though - when you say going through immigration, will that include the pies? I know that sounds daft but if that is the case, there are often restrictions taking food to different countries. You could end up with them all being confiscated and have a hefty fine

I worked in catering before college. 100 pies is nothing, when you think ahead.

When I say going through immigration that means that he is a canadian and I'm american. We have to file for a visa to get him here. And since my grandfather sent a crap load of canned pickles back to canada with Mathew once and he never had a word said to him, I don't think it'd be a problem.

You might not think they look nice, but I think the concept is cute. But, to each his/her own.

I would recommend checking it out before hand though. I don't know - there may be differing regulations for tinned food compared to fresh. Check with customs if you plan to take anyting across the border.

It was tinned. The same way the pies would be. But thanks, I'll look into that anyways.

it is cute.... how about little jars of dry cookie mix, or hot chcolate mix.....

with customs and all i would think baked stuff might be an issue... i guess it depends on where you are coming from and going to though (canada- right?)

Disclaimer: I'm laughing with you

No, it was no play on words. I just meant the idea itself sounded strange.

I am picturing you saying it over and over again out loud , trying to figure it out.

Thank you for this.

They will be coming down here from Canada. Then going back. But honestly, its just a wedding favor still. I doubt that someone would want to actually take that home to put on the mantle! They'll either eat it or toss it. But I'll look up the regulations on it to find out for sure. I was a little worried about the pickles at first, but he said all the guy did was ask what was in the jars and then said "PICKLES?!" and made a funny face. I guess the guy didn't like pickles, LOL.

2sure, I've seriously been sitting here for like 30 minutes trying to figure out the play on words. Tsk tsk! :lmao:
