I got this thread idea from a thread of Cora's entitled "??"

I occasionally read this forum when a title catches my eye. I see a repeated comment by those facing job interviews. They are or were really nervous about the interview. I just remembered today something I did years ago.

I had a job that I felt wasn't a great career for years and years and needed to start looking for something better. I had been there for 5 years and so I had not interviewed in that many years. A friendly customer came in one day and I was curious about his job due to his uniform. He told me a bit about it and then whipped out a business card and said they were hiring in case I was interested.

I never would have considered it. But I realized I needed to practice interviewing. I ended up calling the number and getting an interview for a job I could care less about. Since I had no desire for the job, I wasn't one bit nervous about the interview. I was completely relaxed. Funny thing happened. They offered me a position. I thought about it and realized that it was something I could do after all. I took the job!

This may not work for everyone but keep it in mind when you get really nervous about interviewing. Schedule an interview with a place you could care less if you get the position or not just for the practice of the interview. Some may think it's a waste of the employers time but look how it turned out for me! I found a new position that I never would have thought I would fit into.

Good tip Red. Being relax is key, but you'll still need to sound like you're interested for the job. For me it's practise make perfect. Even get your friends to interview you.

After so many interviews and rejections, i've got to the point, where i'm not even nervous...or bothered about it. Kinda like getting rejections for dates in a way. At the moment i've started doing volunteer work at charities and helping young offenders. One thing i noticed, is that it makes going to job interviews less nerve-wrecking, when i'm busy working (even though it's unpaid)

Wow, this is excellent advice! I am definitely going to try this along with practice practice practice! lol Thank you for sharing Ms. Red. :)

one thing that helped me was to realize that I was interviewing *them* at the same time! Though it might also have something to do with me being a writer and accustomed to digging information out of people

i still get nervous.... where i am now i do apply for some positions- and for the most part i would take the offer if it were offered to me- i just use it as practice.....

but i still turn beet red, get flustered, and my mind goes blank.... i cannot seem to get over that ON DISPLAY feeling... even with in some of my groups of friends i can get embarrassed when i have an audiance....
