On another thread a poster told me it is a huge myth that men are more visual than women. Err, anyone ever read any basic psychology. Men are NATURALLY definitely more visual than women. Not saying women are not visual.

It is more like the politically correct camp that want's to create the myth that men and women are exactly the same when they clearly are not. Just look at natural preferences.

Get an average looking extremely confident women.

Get an average looking extremely confident man.

Throw them into the dating scene and see what happens. The man will attract more of the opposite sex. Just think Donald Trump vs......Oprah.

Then get a super hot woman, dumb as a brick

and a super hot man, dumb as a brick

The woman will attract more of the opposite sex. Just think Pamela Anderson Vs, any good looking male model.

I agree. I don't really get it why some people are hell-bent on proving that women care about looks as much as, or more than men. Basic observation of society should suffice as proof, really.

Ironically, those men are the same men who, after being told countless times that there is no reason why they can't get women despite them being _____ , they turn around and insist that when they say 'get women', what they really mean is 'get hot women'. And then they go on claiming that women must be more visually-oriented, since they can't get hot women. Sounds like the parody of the man boasting about being humble, eh?

Women are visual when looking for a casual relationship.

Men are visual.

Hmmm. I don't think you can blame this one on so-called "political correctness."

I don't think the debate is whether men (on average) are more visual than women. That most people agree is the case. What is less clear is why. Is it something innate? Is it the way men are socialized? Some combination of the two? That's what the arguement is about.

Clearly it's innate, because you get the same preferences in women across all developed countries. It can't be social programming if men across continents like the same types of symmetrical faces, and body types in women.

The minority must just be extremely vocal on these boards, then.

I would say a mixture of nature and nurture. Society's expectations and all that. People, both men and women, always want to have partners that others will admire them for. Since society's worth of women is, sadly, influenced by their looks more so than it is for men, I'm sure this plays a part as well.

Men's self worth driven more by career, and women more by looks. It's the way it has been for a long long time.

Since the earliest days of civilization society has been run that way.

Personally I'm more auditory than visual.

Yes, men are more visual than women.

I don't know if it's more visual. I think men seperate the physical from the emotional a lot easier than women do so we tend to be more picky when it comes to casual dating.

That said, I can't help but roll my eyes when an unattractive guy insists that he has to date a hot woman. I'm sorry but if you're fifty pounds overweight you should stop acting like your entitled to hook up with thin women.

Personally I'm more auditory than visual.

So I bet you think James Earl Jones is a sexy beast.

Meh....when you use words like "definitely", you better have solid scientific evidence to back up your assertions, not just your casual everyday observations.

I am not going word my opinion as strongly as you did, but from my experience, women are just as visual as men....it's just that they also pay a lot of attention to certain factors that men don't care about, or at least don't care about as much. In other words, women are conditioned to look for a man who is a solid, reliable provider. However, if you look at "independently wealthy" who don't have to worry about their finances (i.e. Paris Hilton types) and the men they date, you will find that these women care about looks just as much as the average man.

For a hit and quit I bone heifers.

For a regular f-buddy all i need is a good body.

For women I actually date she has to be hot and have a pleasing personality.

Of course men are more visual than women. And women are more interested in wealth, power, and status than men are. It evens out. Hence you'll see attractive women with ugly men if they have status.

The best arguments to support that men are more visual is porn. Just look at the amount of porn, type, etc. There is no comparison. The amount of porn geared towards men outnumbers female porn a million to 1. Male porn (and gay male porn) is very visual and graphic. It encompasses fetishes of all kinds and fixates on body parts and certain acts. Female porn (or the little I have seen) tends to be more storylike and has a much larger emotionally stimulating aspect.

And look at the porn that is geared toward body parts (think Juggs and Black Tail magazines). I can't think of anything analogous to those magazines for women. There is no magazine called "Big D***s" for women (as far as I know) or "Big Guns" magazines. Sure, some women like big d***s and big arms, but they obviously aren't as visually stimulated by it as a man might be stimulated by a pair of breasts, legs, an a**, etc. Otherwise there would be such magazines in existence, and women would be buying them up like the men buy up porn.

To my knowledge, the only female porn magazine is Playgirl (which recently went out of business) and there are indications from the previous editors and management that their readership is almost 50% gay men.

I think part of the reason of the popularity of porn with men is that it's easier to get than sex. Hence a lot of money can be made from it. Virtually every woman can get laid, anytime, any place. Might not be Brad Pitt, if she goes out to a bar and shouts "who wants to come home with me?" she will have takers. Not so for guys, hence they are more likely to use porn. Women get as much sex as they want, men get as much sex as they can get.

 I like that last statement.

That's the law of supply and demand. Women have excess supply; with men there is an excess demand. Porn is a million (or billion?) dollar industry because there is obviously a desire for it in society. It fills a want, need, or desire.

But that's another subject for another thread.

I agree with all your points so far.

I just want to add. The reason porn sells more for men is because:

1) Women don't just want lots of sex, women tend to prefer a high status male. If women wanted as much sex as men with just anyone then the world would become a crazy place.

2) Men are genetically geared to seek sex with as many partners as possible, to seek sexual variety. Whilst we live in a monogamous society, there needs to be a release between the difference in genetics and social conditioning. Porn is one of those ways.

I think women watching porn is more common than you think. The thing is, it's a choice for them, for for a lot of men, it's their only outlet. I was talking to some chick over at my place several weeks ago and she was talking about her rape fantasies and how she wants to see more porn like it, about white girls being raped by ninjas...

Every girlfriend I have ever had has been far more perverted than I am.
