norajane Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 It started out as a series about an advertising agency set in the 1960's, but it's really delved deep into infidelity, MM, OW, MW, OM all filtered through the lens of the time period. Peggy - young, inexperienced secretary joined the agency and has sex with a man (Pete) about to be married the next day. Gets pregnant, goes into total denial about the pregnancy, and in the end gives the baby up for adoption. Pete gets married and continues to dabble in the occasional ONS. Joan - office manager has an affair with one of the partners and then ends things because she is "aging" and needs to get married, now or never. Roger - has many affairs, but eventually divorces his wife of 20-25 years in order to marry a young secretary to all kinds of social disapproval. And of course, the golden couple, Betty and Don. Don is a serial cheater hiding many secrets including affairs with clients and now, his daughter's teacher who shows signs, IMO, of being a bunny boiler. Betty - Grace Kelly beautiful and now in great need of reading The Feminine Mystique, has a one afternoon stand with a guy in a bar as revenge for finding out about one of Don's affairs, and is contemplating starting an affair with a guy who works for the government. And on and on...virtually everyone on this show has engaged in an adulterous affair in one sense or another. Because divorce was not common back then, it's interesting to see how these affairs and marriages play out. No one is painted in black and white, although almost everyone is unhappy.
Samantha0905 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I don't, but my husband loves the show. I want to go back and start from the beginning. He has the episodes on the television -- somehow -- Netflix or something.
aeh Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Yes, this show hits too close to home right now. I only got in on it this year an know about Betty and Don, but wow, its like watching a mirror image of my life right now.

I only got in on it this year an know about Betty and Don, but wow, its like watching a mirror image of my life right now. I think a lot of people would have that feeling of mirror image, because it tocuhes on so many different aspects and assortments of cheating that it's bound to hit some kind of nerve. And all of them seem pretty much trapped in their circumstances to some degree.
