I find it interesting that people that have married their APs or have seen *successful* marriages that were once affairs are the first to come out AGAINST the 3% stat. LOL.

Seriously, having been around affairs my entire life, I kind of doubt that stat is accurate too. In fact, my uncle married his OW in 1991. They just divorced in 2008 after she left him for another man. And they married in their late 30s!

The stat as stated here doesn't have its accompanying qualifier: it refers to marriages that last to and beyond 5 years. So according to the stat, my Uncle and his OW had a successful marriage. Heck, many first marriages don't even last 5 years, so that's saying something. (I wonder what that stat is too)

Either way, though, the stats for second and subsequent marriages period aren't very good anyway. Infidelity aside, subsequent marriages are always challenging from what I have seen.

Perhaps that is because people who have only seen these types of realtionships fail, or that have no experience with them, have no reason to disbelieve the "stats"? ;)

But those of us who have experienced directly or indirectly a different outcome than what the "stats" suggest question the validity of this study. :D

Considering I said this in that same post, I agree with you. But I don't come out and outright dispute it on that basis. LOL. (I see the wink, fallen, LOL)

The stat actually only covers a short period of time, 5 years. Many affair marriages last much longer than that. Many affairs last longer than the marriages that they are affecting. I've known of people to have an affair in one marriage, not marry each other afterwards, yet continue the affair into subsequent marriages.

The stats don't take any of this into consideration. Real life is so much more complicated than the stats. But they work really well as a scare tactic. LOL. That's for certain.
