someotherguy Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 So, I've been separated from my abusive, cheating almost-ex-wife for almost 9 months now. I've even started dating, and have a nice steady thing going with a wonderful women. However, now that me and the stbx have officially filed our papers, it's starting to grate on me that I agreed to pay her maintenance for 5 years. She's the one that cheated on me. I'm the one keeping primary physical custody of the kids, paying their insurance, doctor bills, extracurricular activity costs, etc. So why the hell do I give her a check every two weeks? I guess it may partly be that I'm annoyed that I can't afford to take my girlfriend out as much as I'd like, due to having to send the b!tch so much cash. So, I guess my question is, anyone here have any constructive advice / feedback about spousal support/maintenance? Quick background: my stbx was a stay at home mom for almost 15 years due to a variety of reasons, even though we agreed before we got married that she wouldn't be, she just never got around to finishing school, kept changing her majors, moving us around for different reasons, it was really annoying. She's currently going back to school and not working - while living with her dad, on my dime.

I would at least find out as much as I could about that specific issue, with the goal of finding out how U can get it at least reduced. Maybe if you could prove her infidelity or something about the kids needing the money? That's my logic on it.
