me a HIGHER salary? I thought I was just fortunate to even be called back in the first place and was in no position to receive my same salary. But to be called back and get a higher salary is just mind boggling. I'm grateful but confused at the same time.

Especially in this economy

They must really need you back pretty bad. Be thankful...

I've been reading in the news that many companies are starting to re-hire back the workers they've previously laid-off, especially in the financial services and manufacturing industries where the deepest cuts have been made over the last 2 years of this terrible recession.

They're saying it's cheaper and safer for the company to hire back a "tried-and-true" employee than somebody they don't know.

With everything we've been through over the last 2 years, however, I'm starting to wonder if us worker bees shouldn't start thinking like mercenaries or hired guns - rather than loyal employees to a company. Clearly it doesn't pay to stick with the same company for very long.

Or, as Chazz said in Blades of Glory, it's mind BOTTLING. ;)

Hey - congrats, and don't question the windfall! :)

Thanks, I won't question just be thankful. The unemployment letter that came today saying my bebefits will be exhausted at the end of the month will make me even more grateful.

if this is a non-unionized company, it is possible that they laid off a significant amount of people knowing they would call back the ones that they wanted to keep. It's a way of weeding out the people they don't find productive or contributory to the success of the company.

Either way, be grateful!

I think you are right because I noticed that everyone did not come back only 3 of us from the 10 that was laid off.

Then that is probably what it is. 10 people get laid off, 7 permanently. THose 7 were probably counterproductive to the compan. ,The company probably realized that there was redundancy in positions, and had to trim the staff but for appearance's sake (maybe employees with more tenure, longer service, etc.) they need to lay off a whole bunch from different areas of the company. They call back 3 of you, and offer you each higher salaries, being able to afford it due to not having to pay out 7 additional salaries.

This is a high compliment from your employers - they know you will feel good, therefore you'll continue to work hard. And they continue to reward you in the future. It's a win-win.

congrats on being called back!
