Could it be: A young guy interested in ME?! If so, how do I not screw this up?

Hello everyone!

Thus far, your advice has been so helpful to me! So much so, in fact, that I may actually have a young (by "young" I mean my age), intellectual, attractive guy that may (or may not) be interested in me. Now, I've had young guys interested in me before, but none whom I would actually consider dating i.e. intellectual and attractive. I tend to go for older, mature, more experienced guys. However, part of me really wants to give my generation a go. That being said, I don't know how to go about doing so!

I have caught this guy staring at me--numerous times. LOL, I usually don't think anything about it, because I'm normally just oblivious. He also has engaged me in conversation, numerous times. However, today is the day it finally occurred to me that he may be interested. So, during class today, we had some eye contact, which is not really all that unusual; however, after class, he walked with me and we chatted for some time. Again, this wouldn't be that unusual, but he kept engaging me, even though I was clearly trying to leave. Also, I mentioned a school event and asked if he was going. Before he answered, he asked if I was going, and when I said "Yes," he said, "Well, then I should go."

So, here's where I need your help! First of all, does this guy sound at all interested? I really have a hard time reading people in general, but guys are like a foreign language to me--I have no clue. Like I said, he could just be interested in friendship. Oftentimes, girls read too much into stuff--it's possible that's what I'm doing. Secondly, if you think he is interested, how do I keep engaging him to let him know that the feeling is mutual? Thirdly, how do I keep him interested?

Young men are seriously a total anomaly to me, as older guys tend to be much more open and honest about their intentions. So, please: any and all advice is welcome! ;)

Is he interested? YES!

when I said "Yes," he said, "Well, then I should go."

This is a leading line if I've ever seen one. Pick your poison as to how to respond to this, whether it's through flirtatious looks, a witty comeback or a combination of both! :bunny:

Oh, TBF to my rescue! I was actually really hoping you would be the first to post! :D

I've never dated a guy under 29--most have been in their 40's. I'm really comfortable around older guys. The fact that he is my age just makes me really nervous. I think I automatically assume that guys my age are just the fickle and superficial jerks that I perceive most of them to be. So, normally, I just totally write them off.

The fact that this guy is my age and seems interested and is not a fickle, superficial jerk is really throwing me for a loop. I'm afraid that I'm going to make one wrong move and it will all be over.

I'm quite certain I'm going to be awkward and idiotic-sounding around him, because I don't know what to say, or how to act!

This is just ridiculous. If only philosophy could help me act like a NORMAL PERSON! :p

Just relax and enjoy the flirtation. If he shows at this event, it's game on! :bunny:

first of all.. you got to change your mindset of "wow, this guy likes me.. how do I not screw this up?" As in turn it around to "this guy is damn lucky I'm giving him the time of day and let's see if he is worthy of me" That's a little extreme but you know what I mean... don't give him all the power too soon (or ever really!)

oh, and I've learned that most guys like confidence and a little challenge... no matter what their age! ;)

LOL, I know. You're absolutely right. It's just I am surprised, to say the least. Not because of anything to do with me, but I just assumed that young guys aren't interested in my "type." I'm generalizing, so that's obviously not good. I just don't know how to interact with young guys.

So, yes, you're right: he is damn lucky! Still, I'm damn surprised.

Age is not always in indication of maturity. You can't say just because this guy is your age then he can't be (insert whatever).

Every person is different.

I know. Generalizing men is a very nasty habit of mine, that I clearly need to get over.

Damn absent fathers creating women with trust issues--among others! Oh, well. Now's as good a time as any to get over my aversion to young men and whatever issues stem from my childhood.

I just don't want to put him off by either acting too interested or not interested enough. I don't really know how to "Play the game." Usually, older guys will state that they like me, I reciprocate, and there you have it. This whole, "Let's chat and be friends" approach is new to me. Either be my friend, or tell me straight-up how you feel, you know?

yeah he gave a pretty good line. He gave you the opportunity to say "Yeah my boyfriend is taking me."

He's interested.

To know if he's interested try: miniskirt, no undies, flash him hard with eye contact:bunny:

Hahaha! I don't know how well that would go over with him, as he is a conservative Catholic.

Then again...one never knows. :p
