overseas2004 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 My husband left the country last month and we are seperated. I didnt think too much about our joint checking account since he was gone. I did move some of the money out of it, by paying bills, but there was about three thousand dollars left in it. Then my paycheck went in an he removed a total of 7000 by going online. I am pretty sure I can kiss that money goodbye. Please help if you know how I can avoid this. My bank is saying that they will probably honor the transfer. If I dont get this money back I wont be able to make the mortgage. Please help.
Tony T Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Your only recourse is to take legal action to get him to pay temporary support. However, if he is overseas that complicates things tremendously. Don't count on ever getting that money back, EVER! Start making plans to make money another way. Notify your bank of what has happened so they can be patient with you as far as the mortgage payment. You didn't give a lot of details but if your husband is employed by an American company and he's gone overseas as part of that work, you might call the people he works for and let them know of this situation. They may be able to funnel some money your way.
Ronni_W Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Overseas, Sorry that you're having to deal with this. I do agree to contact your mortgage company as soon as possible, to explain the situation. It may be an idea to also open a new bank account and make sure your next paycheck does not go into the one to which he has access. Also, if there are joint credit cards, lines of credit, etc., talk to the issuers about suspending or canceling, and start applying for credit in your name only.
