SadandConfusedWA Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 A week ago or so someone has added me as a friend on Facebook, and it's someone I have never heard of. This is no big deal and happens a lot, however this person has only added me as a friend. So they have no friends except for me (and I have a very unique name). They have also not worked on their profile at all. They have just filled in the bare minimum to register and then added me and that's it. To make things worse, I have googled the name that they have registered with and it's of a missing teenager that has been missing for 2 years and is presumed dead. Somehow I am just creeped out by this. WTH? Do you think that someone has indeed made a fake profile to gain access to mine or is there a logical explanation for this? I have messaged this person and said "Who are you" but got no response.
EricaH329 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 That's really really creepy. I'm creeped out just by reading that. I can't imagine how you feel. Is there anyone that might be curious to see what you are up to? An ex that you no longer have contact with? An old friend? Someone from work or school that you might suspect likes you?? It could be a million things, but my first instinct would be that someone wants to check out your page. I've had ex boyfriends do that kind of thing to me before. Make fake profiles to see what i've been up to.

I have messaged this person and said "Who are you" but got no response. Probably a mistake. However, it begs the question, why would you add someone you don't know? I don't get that. If you have any personal info or pics on your page, it's like letting a stranger go through your wallet.
loveslife Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 It doesn't sound like S&C added this person as a friend. She just got a friend request. When someone adds you as a friend you can see their profile without accepting. They can only see yours if you accept. Anyway, it does sound very creepy. Probably an ex or someone else who wants to see your profile. You can report them to FB and/or ignore them.

The answer, for you, depends on whether or not you can think of anyone or any reason why someone would have considerable unsavory interest in you. IF you've had a history of stalkers, or even one significant one in recent decades, then expect that it is that person until proven otherwise. IF on the other hand you can't think of such a person or persons, then assume it is a person who has a sincere and as-yet-unannounced harmless romantic interest in you.

Ariadne Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I had the same thing happen. My bff in HS was sick in a hospital (in South Am) and people in facebook were talking about her situation. So someone created a profile with her name and added me. I got excited that my friend made a profile in FB and added me, to find out that I was the only friend and that person never went back to the profile. Obviously someone was trying to trick me into adding them. Also, last night I got a request from someone I have no idea who it is (but there have been cases where people recognize me but I don't them) I accepted, and this morning I got an email from that person thanking me for adding him. And I thought that was weird too, like he wanted to give a good impression and not be suspicious.

Actually don't even bother wondering who he is and delete him.
