I'm stealing the idea from New Again's thread on justification for men having female friends.

Which of you guys have asked out a girl for a formal/informal do when you have a girlfriend? What's your motive, innocent or otherwise, for that?

What I meant was do guys with SOs still ask out girls they don't really know, without their SOs?

The most similar situation I've been in to the one you mentioned was in high school. An older girl had asked the guy I was seeing to prom with her (he said just as friends); we became official a couple and he was still going to go...

...but as it turned out, she no longer wanted to take him since he had a gf, so got another date.

That's the short version.

Moral being; if you have an SO it's probably not OK.

In college we always had issues because my sisters' bfs could come to a formal so she brought someone else "as a friend" or vice versa for the brothers.

Can there not be nice guys who have SOs but ask girls they barely know out for the sake of friendship?

No. It's one thing to meet up as a group or something, but why do you need to take another girl to dinner if you're in a relationship? That's stupid.

Nope. What Stace said.
