Hkizzle Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/sep/28/sex-women-relationships-tanya-gold Rather long article but well worth the read. As I've always said, a lot of things that drive attraction is entirely primal and got nothing to do with conscious decision making. A lot of the genetic drives to have sex is listed in this article.
Roxanna Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 a lot of things that drive attraction has nothing to do with conscious decision making. I don't think anyone disagrees with this? It's a pretty scientifically established fact for decades I believe.
Leia Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Yawn. Didn't Tony T started a thread on this already?
Author Hkizzle Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 I don't think anyone disagrees with this? It's a pretty scientifically established fact for decades I believe. I started a thread about how cheating was biological, and got shot down by about 20 people. Thanks for the 5-10 people that did agree on that thread though. Who's Tony T?

I don't think anyone disagrees that attraction has to do with chemicals, etc., not conscious decisions.
Author Hkizzle Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Its not that cheating is natural, it is just that long term monogamy is not. I already started a thread called "the end of cheating". Exactly. But that's just semantics. Put an animal in an unatural state (long term monogamy) and you better have enough moral controls to make it stick to those rules. Plenty of people can't stick to the rules even when society tells them to stay faithful. Nature will win in many cases.
Author Hkizzle Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 **** just realized I broke my nose when I was a kid. Imagine how many more girls I could have gotten over the years if I had a symmetical face.
stace79 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 The article -- and book -- are crap. They are some authors' interpretations of survey answers. And I can dispute the one about using sex to relieve migraines. If you have a true migraine, you will not be having sex. You won't be doing anything but lying in a frigid, completely dark room moaning "God, please just kill me." Either that or you're begging for morphine at the local ER.

Oh I would say some of the reasons for sex are definitely stupid. But the main reasons and the genetic drivers are what I find interesting.

I hope to God no one is the slightest bit surprised at the reasons women have sex? I mean, really. How the f is that even worthy of a mention?
Author Hkizzle Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 I hope to God no one is the slightest bit surprised at the reasons women have sex? I mean, really. How the f is that even worthy of a mention? Lol, because MOST people actually don't know the evolutionary reasons, or at least in all the variations in mating strategies. Don't assume just because you know that everyone knows.

Don't assume just because you know that everyone knows. I didn't read much about evolution at all in the article you referenced. And I can't say I've had sex for many, if any, of those reasons. I mean, to give someone an STD? Really? If you spent as much time on just being a nice, fun guy as you do analyzing (or trying to) women, you'd probably have a gf.
Roxanna Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Lol, because MOST people actually don't know the evolutionary reasons, or at least in all the variations in mating strategies. Don't assume just because you know that everyone knows. I was referring to the first third of the article, the reasons women gave for having sex. To give someone an STD. For validation. Because it feels good. To get a bf. To keep a bf. Etc.

Yeah, I couldn't get through the article, really. Maybe it's just the way the author was writing about it, but all I thought was it seemed really dumb, just designed to sell copies.
BlueHarvest Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Yeah, I couldn't get through the article, really. Maybe it's just the way the author was writing about it, but all I thought was it seemed really dumb, just designed to sell copies. ***GASP*** You mean a book...that is about making money...and not necessarily about telling the truth? No.....can't be. With that note: I will say this much....for a "prospective author doing research on these forums" Hkizzle sure does like to state he knows alot about woman.... This is just me, and it's all hypothetical, but if I were in his shoes...I'd ask very non-inflammatory questions, and then let people TELL me about the situations...rather then proclaiming to have the answers to the universe about sex, love, and rock & roll...
Sam Spade Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 whatever. the quality of the press is apparently flushing down the ****in toilet. once the wall street journal publishes a piece of junk like this I will officially proclaim the end of the ****ing world
espec10001 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 *Newsflash* People have sex because it feels good! Where are my millions baby?!

Point taken....however, I still expect there to be some kind of noteworthy, or thought-provoking, or interesting content. It's like the difference between Robert Greene's Art of Seduction and The Secret. This book sounds like The Secret. In other words, obvious and just plain dumb. I don't think it's news that women have sex for all kinds of reasons, or that attraction is based on chemical reactions in the brain.

I used to get migraines through my teens and occasionally since. Sledgehammer and spikes through the skull. Whoever wrote that never had a real migraine.
