IfWishesWereHorses Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I'm curious as to how much help your middle schooler requires when studying for tests. With a boat load of good intentions I hindered my first child by studying for her. I made study guides and taught them to her word for word. I pulled out everything she could possibly need to know and taught her morning, noon, and night. By the time she reached highschool and I had no way of knowing even what chapter they were on, I pulled back. It didn't serve her well at all. She will tell you this day that I hurt her by helping her. I've probably erred in the oposite direction with my son because I'm determined not to make the same mistake. I've left studying up to him, and only remind him of upcoming test and ensures that he spends time studying. He has decent grades but could be doing better. Tonight I didn't feel he was ready for a civics test and after quizing him realized he indeed wasn't. So I spent the last few hours teaching and helping him to remember the information. I do not want him to become dependant on me thought I want to teach him to study. How much help do you offer your 7th and 8th graders?
