nama Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Hi guys, I've been away trying to sort myself with therapy and on my own. I'm back at work now after the holidays (I teach high school) and though my job is exhausting I love it. I went to the doctors this morning as I have been suffering from tension headaches which I knew had to do with stress. I suffer from chronic anxiety. I am always exhausted and stressed - I am near always in a stressed state and never sleep properly. I have been trying to relax more, exercise and eat properly but I don't think anything is working. My mind frame is still the same. I know that this is the key to it. Even though I have been in therapy for near on 5 months I'm not really seeing anything. My doctor said that she wanted me to think about going on to anti-depressants or something else beginning with 'c' - can't remember. I don't know what to do. Should I try it or only turn to meds as a last resort? Thanks, N x
Dooda Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 nama.. meds obviously isn't the choice for you. Prescribing more meds is even worse... Whenever doctors see your meds aren't working, they somehow think it's a better choice to either increase the dose or add an extra drug on the side. I took drugs for 4 months. They did nothing. They made me feel drowsy and less motivated. Perhaps there's something wrong with your life not going right and you need to correct it. That's where the stress is coming from. Maybe your current job isn't the best for you at the moment, because you feel it stress you out? I'm not saying it isn't but I'm just saying maybe there's a reason you're stressed out. Here's something that'll help you, and it's something that's helped me in the past to relax. Go to youtube and look up The most relaxing music ever. The first choice that should come up is a song by a guy named Paul Collier or something like that. He makes a whole bunch of relaxing songs like that, and if you listen with no distractions, it'll get everything off your mind. Trust me, you'll feel refreshed after listening to it. One I really like is "Air". Try doing that before you go to sleep for 30 minutes and see what it does.
Ross PK Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 There's no harm in trying. I mean, what if you are depressed due to a chemical imbalance in the brain? They could help.
Dooda Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Nama, I found this hypnosis video that should really help you to relax. I'm going through some pretty rough times, and it really helped ME to relax, and after watching it I felt much stronger in myself and as though I could tackle the irrational and negative feelings I constantly feel. Go to youtube and search nmh4 hypnosis, click the first link. Watch the video. If you feel it is getting you somewhere, then you can download the full video at nmh4.com, it's also linked on the video. Give it a try, and see how you feel. I hope this helps.

Thanks, N x I have a feeling that your doctor might have been talking about Cymbalta.(sp) It's an add on drug to an antidepressant.. sort of new on the market and used for the pain caused by depression. If I were you, I'd try to relax first on your own through deep breathing, long hot baths, reading or anything healthy that helps you to unwind. If after a while that does not work, then you might want to give the meds a try. Best of luck. Mea:)
Author nama Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Thank you for your feedback. I have decided not to go back to the doctor - I guess I was thinking about the meds because I wanted an easy way. Dooda - thanks for recommending Paul Collier he is AMAZING. I listened to some of his stuff on youtube and what can I say - one of the only times I have ever properly relaxed! I now try to listen to it everyday before I go to bed. Thanks (big time) Dooda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xxx
