Woggle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I have known both people addicted to bad relationships and people addicted to drugs and the one common thread I see is that logic does not apply. No matter how much it hurts them they keep going back. The junkies I know have ended up gpoing to prison, losing their jobs and relationships and overdosing and nearly dying but they go right back to using. For them the thrill and the high is worth ruining their life. At the same time they find a clean and happy life to be boring. The people I know addicted to bad relationships go back after being cheated on, put down, treated like garbage and even abused. They get treated like garbage and just keep going back for more. Like junkies you can talk to them until you are blue in the face but it is like talking to a wall. When they are in a happy and healthy relationship though they find it to be boring. I think that a twelve step program for people who keep finding themselves in this situation might actually be a good idea.
boogieboy Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I dont think Bad relationships is an addiction, its relationships in general that are an addiction. People find someone they really like, and they dont want to let that go and start over. Many people dont get out much, so when they happen upon someone, they know it might be a while before they happen upon someone else, so they stick with what they are already comfortable with. SOmetimes a bad relationship squirms its way in there.
Hkizzle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I dont think Bad relationships is an addiction, its relationships in general that are an addiction. Exactly. I find it interesting very few people every look at the biochemistry of falling in love. The hormones that drive love is about as strong as heroine. So yeah the way people act especially when things are not good is very similar to addiction. The hormones are so strong unless someone exercises EXTREME good self control, even if they conciously know things are not good for them, they'll get attached never the less.
Hkizzle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Btw, who came up with the no contact idea? Caliguy or from some book?
