Wondering if I should take the chance of leaving my current job for another

Ok so right now I have a full time job that pays decent and is not going anywhere. The problem is I hate it and the people I work with are ignorant and impossible to get a long with. I got a job offer to be a nanny which I would love because I have such a passion for kids. The pros are: love kids, same pay, a little better hours, closer to home, less stressful. The cons are: job security is if-y, parents expect a lot including maid services, the parents work at home so it would be hard to keep the children occupied, and can't do schoolwork at work like I can now, no commission bonuses.

I am so conflicted because I would love to be with kids until I graduate from college (now that I am goin back) but I just don't know if this is the right family. The parents seem more worried about their house being clean and organized. On the otherhand I am miserable at my current job.

Any opinions???

Keep looking if this is not the right job. Life is too short to be miserable doing something that you hate. All that will come from that, over time, is bitterness and self loathing.

I just changed jobs myself, and it was the best thing I've done for myself in years. My whole outlook on life has changed now - you don't realize how unhappy you truly are, until you realize how happy you can be again.

This doesn't sound like the job for you. I would keep looking if I were you. Something better could come along. In the meantime, you would work wonders for yourself if you would be a little more accepting of the people you currently work with. Even if they are difficult, you can deflect a lot of that by changing your reaction toward them.

I am sure you are right. I just hope I don't regret not taking it. I am at work now and my receptionist is already working on my last nerve. I have a very high tolerance but this is just ridiculous. My boss is just not a boss. She is a great person but has no balls to do anything. And I keep getting work piled on me. I am just spent. Sad part is I just took a vacation.

can you take a "break" from your current job and still come back to it?

maybe you could do a trail at this nanny gig and see if you do really like it.

Keep looking, but keep the job that pays the bills as long as possible. It's also very hard to find a job these days when you already have one. I was looking while I still had a job and I kept getting turned down because they felt they would be doing a service to someone unemployed if they hired that person instead of me who already had a job.

Because I just used my vacation time my boss wouldn't allow me another break. I did go on Saturday and I am going again this Sunday before I make my final decision. I feel like I should keep this job because it does pay the bills but I also feel like I need to be happy. As soon as I decide to stay then a co-worker gives me attitude and I am questioning it. I just don't want to have any regrets and I feel like either way I may have some.
