Just curious. My boyfriend lost his mother at very young age, age 7. She left his dad and then died about 1 year later. She never came to visit before she died so it was pretty bad. I know that has to be devastating I can't even imagine. His father got remarried and he did not like his stepmother at all... Anyone know anyone like this, just wondering......I can look up the effects of this but wanted anyone with hands on exp. I am not asking because he is acting odd or we are having problems just wanting to understand if that makes sense???

I have, and while I don't know if has to do with the fact of losing his father at a young age, he went back and forth with girls. Very commitment phobic. I learned he had a history of breaking up and getting back with this girl every other week.

That was my XH. He lost his adoptive-mother at age 5 (cancer, I think?) and his father remarried quickly after to a woman that was cold and distant, although she *tried* to be a good mom. I think it made it difficult for him to bond with women. Hence his constant seeking of approval from women via his sex-addiction - flirting, online cheating, and phone sex.

I'm not saying YOURS will go to that extreme. I'm just saying...consider ALL of the effects of somebody's past on who they are in the present. Watch for red flags. ;)
