Enema Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Well, you need to do weights, balanced with cardio. Because of your currently low weight, I'd focus more on doing weights. Diet wise: Make sure you're eating tons of protein... try to cut out the carbs, including sugar (beer!). If you can't afford a gym but still need weights at home, I'd suggest getting an adjustable incline flat bench and dumb bells. You can work pretty much every muscle group with just these two items without breaking the bank.
Trojan John Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I agree with everything Enema wrote. Just to add: you need to do cardio and stop drinking to lose the belly fat. Increase your caloric intake to gain mass. You should see a good deal of improvement after three months of diligent work.
JamesM Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I agree with Enema that a weight set and bench are the minimum. However, I am not sure that I would worry about shake mixes. If you have a Sam's Club or Walmart, then check for the EAS mix they have. Personally, I have found that muscles come from working out and working out takes motivation. I don't know what gym memberships cost by you, but for me, this is actually cheaper and better. By me, they range as high as $80 a month, but then there are many things I wouldn't use or need. I have one that is $30 a month. They have weights and cardio. I have tried the home gym thing and have to admit I failed miserably at staying motivated. When I join a gym, then I know I gotta fit it in and I also have the bonus of other people around. As for your size, I am guessing it won't change alot. If you are in your thirties, then no matter how much you lift...you will remain a similar size. You may look more muscular and that alone is worth alot. You may feel alot better....especially during this difficult time. Getting a gym membership will get you in contact with other people, too. When I work out (which I do in the morning), there are many guys who are there at the end of their night shift. They work out and head home. Just some thoughts.... 1. Buy a weight set and bench...cost around $300 to $700 (used to new). Buy a treadmill....add at least $150 (if used). Work out at home alone. 2. Buy a gym membership...cost around $30 to $80 per month (anywhere from $400 to $1000 a year). Personally, I would only do a monthly deal with no payout all at once. And mine is not a contract technically...although I signed for two years as it is deducted from my account. THEN you have the added bonus of meeting people and having an atmosphere which is already geared for exercise. While I don't have any personal trainer nor did I have anyone show me the ropes (since I have done this long enough to show those young kids how to do it ), this can be had as well. My perspective.
