sungrl Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Do you ever talk to your significant other a little differently than other people? My voice for the most part usually just sounds a little different, nicer etc maybe more cuter(to me anyway lol), maybe i sound a little younger...my last serious b/f never complained about it and i never even thought twice about it really, i always thought it was cute and i was being nice to him.....but my friend kind of mentioned when she heard me doing it she thought i sounded childish and thought it was weird..its not like i would hold a whole conversation like that or speak that way if its a serious topic or argument..but if everything was fine and i am talking to him, i would just sound a little more different...i guess i just started questioning that like is that a horrible thing or something? She said it made me sound like this meek, super innocent type girl and i guess i thought whats wrong with that? my voice would just a little differently when with him or on the phone if everything was fine....sometime his voice would sound a little different too..definitely not as much as me but sometimes his voice would get like that at some moments or if he was trying to avoid a fight and make me feel better, he would try to say it in a nicer tone or something..i know i did it pretty often and probably still do..guess my friend just made me question it a little and im wondering if its annoying to him.....
Rylle Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 guess my friend just made me question it a little and im wondering if its annoying to him..... Well if you're concerned that he might find it annoying, my thoughts are: 1. Your bf would have mentioned this to you, not your friend. 2. Ask him.
Author sungrl Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 yeah i am guessing if it was super annoying or something it probably would have been brought up by now...
Rylle Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 yeah i am guessing if it was super annoying or something it probably would have been brought up by now... I think so Most likely he doesn't even notice; if he does it probably doesn't bother him or he likes it. Unless you just started dating. That might be different possibly.
Author sungrl Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 yeah well he definitely doesnt do it as much but he's a guy so im assuming its a little different lol..we broke up awhile ago but are thinking of reconciling so only now am i thinking--oh wow, is this annoying? lol but for over 3 years before i know i did often and it wasn't brought up to me that it annoyed him...
Trialbyfire Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Babytalking is annoying as hell to listen to, if you're a third party. But it appears that most couples who indulge in it, are happy to do so, so I wouldn't worry about it unless he finds it annoying.
anne1707 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I walked into a colleague's office whilst he was on the phone. I assumed from the tone of his voice and the language he used that he was talking to one of his children. I then realised it was his girlfriend - he was talking to her as if she was a child and continued to do so with me in the room with him. So very, very wrong......
Sibyl Vane Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I usually only do that if I want something.
aerogurl87 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I do this all the time around a guy I like, lol. I think for some people it just comes natural. I mean for me I don't change my voice on purpose, but it just kind of happens, so I see nothing wrong with it.
Jersey Shortie Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 It's natural and scientifically proven that our voices alter depending on who we are talking to. Somtimes my friends and family will call me at work and make fun of my "sexy work voice". Because it can be different from my at home with friends and family voice. And sometimes yes, the way I talk to my man can be softer more intimate, a little lighter. So as long as you aren't completely changing your voice to talk false setto or using baby talk or talking in a way that is fake and unnatural for you just to sound a certain way, if these changes are just alterations in your voice pattern here and there, it's perfectly normal and infact everyone does it on some level. You're friend might find it annoying but she has a different relationship with you then something more romantic and intimate that you have with your guy. Although, I will say that out of respect for family and friends, there are times to curb certain intimacies with your partner. No matter how adorable they are. Sometimes they can alienate others.

I LOVE it when gf have talked to me in a slightly cuter voice. Its subtle flirtation - the kind that makes me wanna hold her.
littlewhiterose Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 If it comes about naturally then I don't think there's anything wrong with it either. It's when it's faked is when it's hard to tolerate. I have a co-worker who answers the phone in this heavy breath-y sexpot-several times lower- type voice where she actually straightens her back, tucks down her chin & everything ...Not at all her real voice . At some point later in the convo, she forgets and ends up reverting back to her original voice . I always wonder if other people have noticed. I mean, if it's natural, it's ok, at least you more inclined to maintain the tone.
