It became a deal breaker and we broke up over it. During the breakup, I never once disagreed with the breakup or expressed any want to get back together. I remained calm/civilized. We talked a few days after that. He said 'I thought you would be mad at me and not want to talk to me' and I asked 'why would u think that' and he says 'because I BROKE UP WITH YOU!' and i say 'well its not like you lied or cheated' and he goes 'still, I BROKE UP WITH YOU!!'. Does he really think that him emphasizing 'I BROKE UP WITH YOU' is supposed to make me feel better? It's like great, thanks for reminding me for the n-th time that I just got dumped. Adding salt to wounds

Too bad I didn't think of that at the time. Now I've gone NC to move on. I mean, hasn't he figured that he's hurt me enough just by breaking my heart? He also wants to hurt me some more just for the sake of his own ego? Gosh, people can be so cruel.

I just told them we broke up but didn't give them details' and he just went 'oh' in a very disappointed manner. What a schmuck!

It's impossible to dredge up compassion and empathy for someone who's "pain" is driven by their outsized ego!
