In a nutshell, I really like this guy and his birthday is on Monday. He isn't looking for anything serious right now since he just broke up with his long term girlfriend just less than a month ago. I am pretty sure he knows that I like him but lately I have been going the friend route. I'm not quite sure how he feels about me.

The thing I need help with is his birthday card. I know it's sort of silly to worry this much about a card, but oh well.

He said he didn't want anything for his birthday but I got him a little patch of his favorite band anyway. I am going to put it in a card and give it to him on his birthday. My dilemma is, I don't know what kind of card to get. Should I stay the friend route with a funny card, or would that be playing too safe? Or maybe a sort of sentimental card, or would that scare him away? Please help!

I always buy blank cards and write my own message. Nothing pre-made ever has exactly what Im looking for.

I think what youre doing is really sweet, and I would really appreciate it. I would keep the card light, so maybe something funny, or whatever, but not something sappy, make sense?

in this particular case go the funny route

Buy a funny card and add a small message. That way the card is personalized, funny, but still isnt to serious.

I can come up with something funnier/wittier than 'Have an eggcellent Day' with a giant egg on it, you know?

Obviously, anything that says happy birthday works for a birthday, but how generic is that?

Maybe I'm sexist, but I think guys in general don't go for sentimental cards.

No matter what the relationship is, I would go for cute/funny. :)

And I'm a big fan of writing your own message, whether you get a blank card, or just add your own message to a birthday card. That gives you the opportunity to be cute/sweet in your own personal message, but not sentimental or anything, which might be awkward.

its not what the card says, its the fact that you spend $3.99 + tax on it

Thanks for the replies! :)

I think I will go the funny route, as the majority rules.

I vote for "funny." So far, IME, even guys I was actually romantically involved with preferred funny cards.
