carhill Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 At today's prices, at the rate my dad smoked them, you could afford a Hummer OP, just think of the increased volume of lovelies wanting to Hoover your twinkie if you didn't smoke. That's incentive man...
Art_Critic Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 but if someone can afford cigarattes...you know they've got their finances in order So the family that buys the lottery tickets at midnight while they buy their pack of smokes and then go back to their mobile home and kids without clean clothes have their finances in order ? I've seen it.. more than once... Alpha... Smoking is a turn off because it smells and people die from it.. If you haven't noticed it is clearly linked with lung cancer and reduces the years you have on this planet to procreate After having/watching 2 parents die from lung cancer caused by cigarettes I can honestly say that I wished they had never smoked.. I would still have them in mine and my family's lives today. I have dated smokers before and it is tough kissing an ashtray all the time.. I also hated going into work or someplace smelling of smoke even though I didn't smoke.. Why not give it up ?..
kiss_andmakeup Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Are you or are you not a current smoker? I am not. If you don't smoke what do you think of smokers in general? I think it's a pretty downright stupid habit, but I do have friends who smoke. If you don't smoke would you date a smoker assuming good compatibility otherwise? Probably not seriously. The only smoker I ever dated, I dated very casually, mostly because he was hot and I enjoyed having sex with him. Probably wouldn't consider a serious relationship with one. If you do smoke do you find it harder to find people to date and do you ever try to hide the fact that you smoke? N/A
Author alphamale Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 Why not give it up ?.. because i'm strongly addicted to nicotine
Art_Critic Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 because i'm strongly addicted to nicotine That's the way they want it Alpha.. Even years after you quit you might get the cravings.. that alone should be a sign that more is at work than just an enjoyable smoke.. They are creating customers for life..till death
ReturnToSender Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 So the family that buys the lottery tickets at midnight while they buy their pack of smokes and then go back to their mobile home and kids without clean clothes have their finances in order ? I've seen it.. more than once... I guess my laughing smiley threw you off... but ah, that was said in humour. Just as a nice house and car have never been a sure sign of financial order, of course. I understand how it has affected you personally, but that doesnt mean you have the right to lash out and control others...just quit. If only it was so easy to apply that to the wrong that we *all* do in our lives, that are harmful and of no benefit to ourselves. And anyone who says they are perfect and never do anything that is not to their best benefit...well, they probably dont have the time to try to control any aspect of anyone elses life since they keep busy enough taking care of their own business. I reckon.

I never said "just quit " to Alpha.. I asked him why he doesn't give it up.. I'm an Alcoholic with over 22 years of sobriety.. I know the feeling of an addiction and understand that people who smoke are addicted, that doesn't mean I shouldn't speak my opinion when someone asks or I should have to sugar coat it.. That would be a dealbreaker. I guess part of it would have to do with the fact that I can't stand the smell of smoke. I have a VERY sensitive sniffer in general and can't stand pungent smells of ANY type. I'm always smelling things before other people do - I'm like a hound dog. So the smell of smoke is like a siren to my nose...very unpleasant. Not to mention that I've come across some incredibly inconsiderate smokers. Just because YOU choose to have all your stuff smell like that doesn't mean I should have to have MY stuff smell like that. I had a girl that I was giving a ride home in my car (long car ride - an hour) and she snarkily said, "So, I bet you don't want me lighting up in your car?" I said, "You bet right. I'd appreciate if you didn't." She rolled her eyes at me. Are you serious?

I would definitely prefer a non-smoker now.
RedDevil66 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 so you're sort of de-sensitized to your BF's smoking? No, He will smoke outside. The smell makes me not feel well.
Els Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 You seem to be missing an integral point, alpha. Yes, everyone has at least one habit that isn't healthy. But if someone binges on ice cream, or habitually goes suntanning without sunscreen, etc, it only harms themselves. On the other hand, secondary smoke kills faster than primary smoke. Unless the guy ONLY smokes when he isn't in my presence... but then what'll happen if we end up marrying? He's gonna go a few metres away from the house whenever he feels like taking a smoke? I would think my guy would be a shallow jerk if he dumped me because I got fat. But I would think he'd be a logical person if he dumped me because I started smoking.
Meaplus3 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hi, i'm Alphamale and I smoke cigarettes. Hi Alphamale! I'm Meaplus3. So here are my questions: Are you or are you not a current smoker? X Smoker If you don't smoke what do you think of smokers in general? Well, if they wish to smoke and take a health risk, then that's their choice. If you don't smoke would you date a smoker assuming good compatibility otherwise? No. If you do smoke do you find it harder to find people to date and do you ever try to hide the fact that you smoke? When I did smoke, yes I would try to hide it. Mea:)
AlektraClementine Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Are you or are you not a current smoker? - I am a current smoker do you find it harder to find people to date and do you ever try to hide the fact that you smoke? - I would never hide the fact that I smoke to get a date. It's their choice to not date me. However, I've dated lots of non-smokers and they like me just fine. Here's my rules though. -Carry lots of altoids -Never smoke in the house -Never smoke around children -At a social place (i.e. a bar), unless the person next to me is smoking, always ask politely if my neighbor minds me lighting up. Most bars and restaurants in Atlanta are becoming smoke free. Doesn't bother me at all. I don't mind stepping outside.

No I don't smoke and other than for a brief period when I was 13 I never have. I don't really think about smokers much. Sometimes they don't smell too good I guess. Yes I'd date one just as long as they don't smoke more than occasionally and not around me or in my house/car. A full-blown smoker, no. Fourth point N/A
silic0ntoad Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Well, I'm a smoker. I really couldn't care less. Yeah, I've got an addiction. But whatever. Go on, label me a leper, that's fine. You're just one less scab I have to worry about if you dislike me for a habit. The way I look at it, don't judge my habit until you stop: Stop eating Fast Food. Stop Binge Drinking. Stop Biting your Fingernails. Stop Midnight Snacks. Stop taking RX Meds. Stop Chewing so much gum. Stop Not using a blinker when you change lanes. See my point? If you're judgemental about smoking, inevitably, you'll be judgemental about other things, and frankly, I am better off without it. I've dated non smokers. I'll just not smoke around them. If that's not compromise, then off you go. Don't miss me on your la la path to happiness.
sumdude Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 [*]Are you or are you not a current smoker? Yes, about a pack a day [*]If you don't smoke what do you think of smokers in general? n/a [*]If you don't smoke would you date a smoker assuming good compatibility otherwise? n/a [*]If you do smoke do you find it harder to find people to date and do you ever try to hide the fact that you smoke? Yes and no I don't hide it. That would be pointless. I am who I am warts and all. One reason my last relationship ended was because she didn't want to be with a smoker. It wasn't a great match anyway and was only a sort of FWB anyway. My ex wife quit smoking and six months later left me.. is there a connection? Who knows, a lot more was involved but I'd bet it was a small factor at least. From being on dating sites and seeing the preferences the smoking probably cuts my dating pool at least in half if not more. I do notice many people looking down at smokers as if it's some weakness of character or something wrong with them. I say weed your own gardens first and hope you don't fall off that high horse. I live in a state where there's giant cigarette along the highway by the state capital, home of Philip Morris. I would tell people I would quit when the state went non smoking in bars in a way thinking that wouldn't happen considering the tobacco industry here. Well I was wrong and it's happening the end of this year. I'm starting to try to psyche myself up to quit.. it really makes sense but I've been smoking since I was fifteen and I'm 41 now. Yeah it's an addiction, of the twenty cigs I smoke a day I probably enjoy five at the most the rest are just habit. It's more than just the nicotine, there's rituals and things connected like having the morning coffee, smoke breaks at work is where the most information gets around more so than a meeting, having a drink etc etc Many of my friends have managed to quit so the time is coming for me.
AlektraClementine Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I say weed your own gardens first and hope you don't fall off that high horse. Nicely put. High five.
Chicago_Guy Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I'm not a smoker and I don't think I could date a girl who smoked. I've never understood the appeal of smoking. I was happy when states started banning smoking in bars/restaurants because I was sick of my clothes reeking of smoke just because a couple random people were smoking cigarettes.
Thornton Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I'm not a smoker and I don't think I could date a girl who smoked. I've never understood the appeal of smoking. I was happy when states started banning smoking in bars/restaurants because I was sick of my clothes reeking of smoke just because a couple random people were smoking cigarettes. I'm also extremely happy about the smoking ban! I used to go for a meal in a pub or restaurant and come out stinking so badly that I'd have to immediately throw all my clothes straight in the wash and wash my hair too. Now I can go out for a meal or drinks and not have to scrub myself down afterwards, a night out doesn't make me smell like a dirty ashtray, and I can also take my nephews out for lunch without them inhaling second hand smoke. I also agree with what some other posters mentioned about not socialising with smokers - I'd be less inclined to make close friends with someone if they smoked because I wouldn't want them smoking around me. One particular couple have invited us for dinner a few times, and we always make excuses not to go because their home stinks of smoke, plus they smoke around us while we're in their home. Of course they have the right to smoke in their own home, but we also have the right to decline their invitations for that same reason. They're nice people and we've been out for drinks and dinner etc with them several times, but we really don't like to go to their home.
Author alphamale Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 why you all dissin' us smokers? we pay taxes and help to keep the economy going. none of you are paying any of these taxes. you should be happy that we smoke
donnamaybe Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 why you all dissin' us smokers? we pay taxes and help to keep the economy going. none of you are paying any of these taxes. you should be happy that we smoke Oh, wow. I have no problems with people smoking, providing I don't have to breathe the product of their habit. That's why I wouldn't date a smoker. I have enough bad habits of my own. I don't need THEIRS to help me ruin my own health!
ReturnToSender Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Even I as a smoker am happy about the ban in restaurants... I dont smoke while I eat, and dont want to taste or smell it either. Im a bit disheartened by the ban in bars/clubs...but then Im not at a total loss...many places like that around here still allow smoking indoors. As for my home...if I know someone is coming over..smoker or not..I dont smoke inside for that whole day..I air the place out and simmer some essential oils. If I invite someone over, I want them to be comfortable in my home... Sort of like..yeah, its my house, I can do whatever i want..and I walk around naked 90% of the time, but Im still going to put clothes on when I have visitors over. Its courteous, yannow?
