New Again Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I'm currently looking to change jobs, and am re-writing my resume and preparing for possible interview questions. I don't really have a lot of experience with this, because I pretty much fell into a job when I finished my masters and that's the only real job I've had. While working full time I had a part-time waitressing job for extra income. I want to put this experience on my resume for some of the jobs I'm applying for, because the people skills and so on are pretty relevant for some of the positions I'm looking at. However, I quit this job because the head chef/owner threw a plate at me, and since it was just extra income I wasn't really concerned with finding a similar position right away. I really want to put this experience on the resume I send to certain jobs, but I'm wondering if it's better I don't, and if I do, and I get an interview and someone asks, I'm wondering what BS kind of answer I should give for why I left?
nobody's girl Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Tell them what you've written here (minus the plate throwing ) Just tell them it was a part time job for extra income and you left it because you already had a full time job. Bonus points: tell them you felt like having the part time job was getting in the way of the full time job. Makes it look like you're going to be committed to a full time job.
quankanne Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 yep, that even though the waitressing gave you a chance to really polish your social skills, the schedule was starting to conflict with your main job. however, I can't imagine a prospective employer would delve past that. If he does, really push the social skills aspect of the job – getting to meet people from different walks of life and working as part of a team. The chef incident has nothing to do with things, IMO, because it was an isolated incident in an otherwise good stint waitressing.
TwinkletOes26 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 wow@ the chef throwing a plate at you....good for you not punching him or throwing something bigger at him...you are wy better than me i would have been on the news that night :lmao: for tasering him in his down below.
Author New Again Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 I actually always thought if someone treated me that way that I would act similarly - lose my temper and throw something back, something along those lines. Then, when it came right down to it, I was just so incredibly shocked at the sight of a grown, middle-aged man having a temper tantrum over NOTHING, and at having a human being actually throw something at me for absolutely no apparent reason, other than a bad mood, that I started laughing. ...And finished my shift and then quit, after explaining that no one treats me that way. Thanks for the advice! Everything's so competitive that I just want to make sure I do everything as right as I possibly can.
boldjack Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Tell them you left the job, due to a chronic crockery shortage.
