Why the tension between men and women anyway?

So on another forum I post about natural biological differences between men and women that create natural differences in how men and women see relationships, and some crazy feminist starts blasting me, and telling me how the differences between men and women exist as a result of conditioning by a sexist society.

I've talked to people from many countries about relationships and it's only the people from the US that keep doing this men vs women thing.

What's the deal here?

I am not sure what the question really is here...What's the difference between men and women and how they view relationships? There are lots and lots of differences. Are you asking why there are differences? Or, why are men/women at odds with one another? Please clarify.

badly worded OP.

No, I mean the battle of the sexes. All this hating going on between men and women. I don't see it in other places. Not Europe, not Asia. If a sexist comment comes up people joke around it.

Say something sexist in the US and people flip out.

Do you bring roast suckling pig to a Muslim pot luck? Why not since most atheists, agnostics and Christians eat pork?

I know what you mean and it doesn't bother me at all. Usually, in my experiences, sexist comments were meant to be jokes, and they really are funny to me. I don't take it too seriously. Also, and I will probably get attacked when I say this, feminists are way out of hand sometimes. I really think they tend to be way too uptight. Just relax and enjoy life, things aren't meant to be fair and even. They aren't. They never will be. And women don't get shortchanged all the time. I enjoy all the benefits of being a girl. I am very much a girly girl. I love heels and makeup and cooking and making a man happy. Is that so bad??

No it's not like that. It's a regionally specific problem.

People seem much more sensitive about gender specific issues. On that other thread, another woman said she discussed the thread with her husband and felt it's not good to encourage discussions about differences between men and women, because there's already a wedge between them.

I'm like wtf?

 WTF is the matter with you? You're not allowed to act like a woman AND enjoy it. These bonds were placed on you by MEN and MUST be removed to experience true freedom.... :) I'm JUST kidding.

I think it's unfortunate that some people seem to think there's something admirable about neutering the men and desexing the women. We are who we are - vive le difference. I think the yin/yang dynamic is beautiful.

It depends on how the differences are expressed. If they're expressed in a respectful or comedic manner, people can handle it. If it's deliberately posted to antagonize, particularly when none of it's backed up by any real fact, and misogyny is hidden behind an intellectual discussion, expect to get a reaction.

Me, I love women.

Not to say I don't take a perverse pleasure in pissing them off or anything.

The bolded sentence isn't gender specific with you so it's all good. ;)

Equal opportunity, that's me baby.

And yeah, out of town on business again. Otherwise I wouldn't be anywhere near this dump.

That's my point exactly. Misogyny and misandry were terms I only knew from a dictionary until I went on a forum.

There are a lot more people attacking and have issues against men/women, and counterattacking whilst everywhere else I don't see it.

I think it's unfortunate that some people think the goal of feminism is to neuter men and desex women, and it bothers me when people who hate men or don't actually want equality claim to be feminists. sigh.

Well, I never said that about feminism. I said "some people." Not sure how that directly ties to feminism. That would be like me saying, "All black people...." blah, blah. My comment was in regards to those that think that is a worthy goal - neutering men and desexing women. It doesn't have to be a feminist. It can be the religious right, the liberal left, the feminists, the misogynists...whomever.

Actually - an interesting movie that shows some of the extremes of feminism is "The World According to Garp." Good movie. I agree with Garp. :)

Oops, sorry I misread you. :o

For what it's worth, I agree.

I'm not sure.

I remember throughout the first year or so of my time as a member on this website, the whole male vs female thing didn't really exist and it was quite an interesting messageboard to read & be a part of. Felt much more like a community.

Now it's not much like that and I don't frequent this website as much as I did.

I've said it before but no one listens. America is a country that is constantly at war. Where there is war, there is little room for peace and love. War on terror, war on drugs, heck, war on HUMANITY! War on sex, war on love, get it? Tension between men and women are a result of endless war.

So since this text can't communicate properly the message, in real life I do it through song. Say it with me and demand it: "War No More".

Yes, this used to be a far more pleasant site, without gender wars. We were invaded by a group from another site and since that time, due to nature of certain threads, have drawn even more women haters.

Why would I want to f*ck someone I get along with? ;)

I think the tension between the genders isn't a constant thing. Really, the only time it comes up for me is on LS forums. IRL, it is a lighthearted subject that rarely comes up in conversation.

But if someone were to come to this country and feel it is a more tense or more often spoke of subject (anywhere other than on here that is) it is probably due to women having more rights and options here than in many other countries.

And THAT is hardly the U.S. fault. Land of the Free and democracy and all that bit tends to give everyone more rights, but I thought that was the point.

From what I understand from my asian friends, women are treated like crap in Asia, with minimal rights. Lately though, from what I've noticed since I live in a city full of asians, it appears that the younger girls are battling back, at least from the Chinese contingent. There's a trend going on whereby the men are carrying the womens' purses for them. A helluva' statement, no?

Well, the women carry the men's babies, no? I see some parallels. ;)
