This might get a little long. I'm a female, 29, single but dating someone specific, not exclusively.

A few years ago I visited my best friend from law school (we went to school together; after graduation she moved to one city, I moved to Cape Cod). I stayed for the weekend, and met her two roommates (a guy and a girl). While my friend lived with these people I visited maybe three times total, and kind of became friends with the guy, who was a couple years older than me.

Fast forward to this summer. I get a facebook message that this guy, I'll call him John, is visiting Boston and we should meet up if I'm around. I say yes of course and we make tentative plans to go out drinking that Friday. This turned into going to a baseball game, then going out.

We texted a little bit in the meantime. On Friday we agreed on a time that I would come into the city. Anyone that knows the area knows that it's not that easy to take public transportation in, drink, then take public transportation home. If I did that, I would have to park at the commuter lot, take the train in, and leave early and not drink a lot so that I could drive back home. My sister lives in Boston, but since she wasn't going out with us I didn't feel comfortable asking to crash at her house.

So I said that I would drive in, park somewhere, not drink a lot, leave early and drive back home. I told John that I would want him to walk me back to my car, since it would be later at night. He texted back saying that I could stay in his hotel room if I wanted, so I accepted.

I get to his hotel, and call him so he can go park with me and walk me back to the hotel to his room.

So he does...and we get to his room...and there's already another girl staying with him??!!

Don't you think he should have said that he was visiting with another girl?

lol, wtf?

Nice twist at the end of this story, I didn't expect that.

Maybe he was trying to set up a 3 some.

I didn't expect it either! It sparked a whole awkward discussion of where I was going to sleep.

When I saw her I was just stunned and didn't say anything for a minute, then I was like "...are you staying here too?"

She seemed surprised that I didn't know what was going on. Apparently she was dating this guy and they were visiting the city together. I can't imagine what she was thinking...if I were her and another girl came and said that to me I'd be pretty mad. I felt like we were going to hook up! Why else would he offer to let me stay after I told him what a hassle it was for me to go into the city?

My thoughts on this are:

Did he know specifically where you lived in relation to Boston? Depending on what city he's from, he may have assumed that public transportation was as accessible and convenient as it is in other cities (like NY, DC, etc.). So when he invited you it was more to say hi and catch up because he thought you were close by and it wasn't a big hassle?

If you really are friends, then wouldn't he have also known that your sister lives in town? Maybe he assumed that you would stay with her?

I do think it's odd that he wouldn't have told you that he was visiting with another person though, especially if it was his gf. But again, maybe he thought it was more of a casual meet up.

Until I read that very last line, I thought that perhaps you were going to be dissapointed he just wanted sex, but seriously - weird! I have no idea why you would invite another girl over to hang/stay with you like that if you were with your gf.

Im stunned. I cant even begin to tell you why a guy would do this, seems nonsensical to me.

I guess maybe he could've felt like he had to invite me stay over. But it was just so incredibly awkward and weird. I just don't understand what happened.
