Lakeside_runner Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hey there, I recently got out of a long-distance relationship with a girl who lives in my home country... kind of a sad story but that's part of the world, right? I've been living in the US for four years now and I thought, maybe I'll try dating american girls. So, I was just wondering if there is a disadvantage in being foreign when it comes to dating... Here's a little background: *I grew up in Europe (obviously there are cultural differences but not as big as say between the US and Korea or Senegal, plus I don't have any problems with assimilating into the new culture) + let's say I've some of the charm and manners of the 'old world' * I don't think that language is a problem (I'm not a native English speaker and I do have a slight accent but people usually place me in Australia or New Zealand when they listen to me - I was taught English by a teacher from there), * I'm here for grad school in math but I'm not a nerd/geek. I mean I like what I do but I don't represent the usual stereotypes like greasy hair etc. I care about my looks in kind of a regular, non-freaky way (I go to the gym regularly, I'm a runner who can do a 1/2-marathon in 1:40:00 etc. but I've never been to a tan studio ). I'm just a regular guy. So - are there disadvantages? Any thoughts? Anybody?
lupa Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Oh you're completely screwed, dude, because girls don't like foreign guys with accents! /sarcasm Go out! get laid! It's gonna happen. People dig what they think is exotic.
SoulSearch_CO Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I don't personally see a problem. But I love accents and find different cultures interesting. The gym thing is a plus and so are the brains (grad school). I'm female, btw.
Citizen Erased Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Tony, can I have him? Just for a little while? A fit, good with math guy with an accent.
