tkgirl Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 has there ever been a song that just sort of "haunts" you.. you know the kind that gives you chills? especially the words... right now mine is "someone to lay down beside me"... it's an old song that Karla Bonoff re-did. Here's the part that really gets me: "... and they'll say women sweet women please come home with me, you're shining and willing and free. But their love is a common occurance, not like love that I feel in my heart. Still you know that may be all I need is someone to lay down beside me.. " for some reason I could cry when I hear that part... can anybody here relate? what's your song... you know, that does that to you?
northstar1 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 A bit OC here, but Bixby Canyon Bridge by Death Cab for Cutie Mind you, this spoke to the breakup that brought me to LS, but still poignant to me. "In the silence it became so very clear That you had long ago disappeared And I cursed myself for being surprised That this didn't play like it did in my mind"

What haunts you about that song? Mine is Possum Kingdom by the Toadies. "Make up your mind Decide to walk with me Around the lake tonight By my side I'm not gonna lie I'll not be a gentleman Behind the boathouse I'll show you my dark secret" Creepy!
Cora Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 There are many, but here are two that come to mind.
Author tkgirl Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 A bit OC here, but Bixby Canyon Bridge by Death Cab for Cutie Mind you, this spoke to the breakup that brought me to LS, but still poignant to me. "In the silence it became so very clear That you had long ago disappeared And I cursed myself for being surprised That this didn't play like it did in my mind" I think we've all felt that way at some point... I'm not big on DCFC but great lyrics. What haunts you about that song? Mine is Possum Kingdom by the Toadies. I guess that song relates to a situation I went through with a guy that's still in my heart, even though I've finally realized he's not the one... makes me sad but in a good way.. if that makes any sense. and I like that Toadies song! it's so.. naughty! There are many, but here are two that come to mind. Sarah M has an awesome voice... good picks! I love "Angel" or is it "Arms of an Angel?" anyho... I always think of my dog when I hear it.. I know, very weird but I swear she's my angel! and it just came out on the radio right around when I bought her.... awwwww!!!
bella16 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Mine would be "Pretty Wings" by Maxwell Everytime I hear this song I think of my ex... I loved the song when it came out then during our breakup, I'd just cry. These are the lyrics: Time will bring a well end of our trial One day there'll be no remnants, no trace, No residual feelings within you One day you won't remember me. Your face will be the reason I smile But I will not see what I cannot have forever I'll always love you. I hope you feel the same. Oh, you played me dirty, your game was so bad You toyed with my affection Had to fill out my prescription for the remedy I had to set you free. Away from me To see clearly The way that love can be when you are not with me I had to lead I had to live I had to leave I had to love If I can't have you Let love set you free To fly your pretty wings around. Pretty wings, your pretty wings, your Pretty wings. Pretty wings around. I came wrong you were right Transformed your love into like. Baby believe me, I'm sorry I told you lies. I turned day into night Sleep till I die a thousand times Ah, I should've showed you Better nights, better times Better days, and I miss you more and more If I can't have you Let love set you free To fly your pretty wings around. Pretty wings, your pretty wings, your Pretty wings. Pretty wings around. Pretty wings, your pretty wings, your Pretty wings. Pretty wings around.
boogieboy Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Any music that I worked on during my last breakup (when i was tryin to keep busy) I cant listen to without being put right back to how I felt when she left me. So I have peices of music that will put me into a spiral of depression, until I get a new gf anyways....hopefully.

redhighheels Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 The one that has always struck a cord with me is Crucify - Tori Amos. "Why do we Crucify ourselves Every day I crucify myself Nothing I do is good enough for you Crucify myself Every day I crucify myself And my heart is sick of being I say my heart is sick of being in chains [...] I know a cat named Easter He says will you ever learn You're just an empty cage girl If you kill the bird"
callingyouuu Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Some of mine... Run, Snow Patrol Better in Time, Leona Lewis Sideways, Citizen Cope What If, Coldplay Samson, Regina Spektor.... Especially Haha, I think we have really similar musical tastes. For those of you who are into slow, reflective ballads, another few favorites of mine have been "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" by John Mayer and "Wreck of the Day" by Anna Nalick.

Oh I love Wreck of the Day!! Of course I love anything by Anna Nalick! Some of my favs by her include "Breathe," "Catalyst," and "In my Head"
Cora Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Other favs on the top of my head right now that I find really beautiful include....My Skin by Natalie Merchant, In the Deep by Bird York, and Mad World by Gary Jules
MissHamilton Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Des' Ree - Kissing you .. Its not a breakup song or anything like that but her voice is so amazing it gets right to my heart and the music really "haunts" me .. Beyonce - Smash into you is one of my favourites at the moment! Her voice sends chills down my spine when she starts singing

I hate to admit this but I love (most of) John Mayers stuff... I mean the guy's hella cute but a musician? yep.. he actually is that too.. and a good one! there's a few songs on Continium that has brought me to tears before... "in repair" oh, and "dreaming with a broken heart" "when you're dreaming with a broken heart, the waking up is the hardest part" sigh... but on the other end I like Alice in Chains "Brother" "..you were always so far away I know that pain and I won't run away like I used to do.." I miss Layne S still..
Lish Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Good choice! For me personally though, Leona Lewis' version of Run gives me chills more than the original. Both versions are good though. It is an an amazing song.
EddieN Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 The one line that always hits a nerve is from "Mad World" by Gary Jules (originally by Tears for Fears): Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me No one knew me I play that song on piano, and honestly, whenever I sing that line my eyes water up, because it strikes so deep. Also lines from Pearl Jam's "Jeremy." I know these have nothing to do with romance, but I thought I would share.
