Sometimes i am ungrateful for all i have in my life and shouldnt be! My parents are amazing and help me out with everything..lending me money and i pay them back every time..its just i am not great full for all i have..the love for me from my family..all they have done for me to help me succeed. I HATE feeling this way. I am trying to turn it around but i just hate this :o

I'm not sure what you mean by you hate feeling that way. Do you mean that you hate that you are not grateful even though you know you should be?

The nice thing about gratitude is that even if you feel you haven't been grateful before for something, you can be grateful now for everything present and past.

If this were in a different forum I'd be able to answer your question, touching upon 'Craving' and 'Desire', and 'Suffering' and 'Grasping at the Impermanent' in an effort to find happiness, which by very nature of it's impermanence, is unsatisfactory, and "Hungry Ghosts"....

But we're not, so I won't.

If I could offer my interpretation of your two posts:

The first one, it sounds as if you are grateful for what you've already received from them -- you appear to be totally aware of all that you do have.

The second one, it sounds as if you are not satisfied with all that you've received...you still have more wants and needs that have not yet been fulfilled (by them.)

But the second condition doesn't negate your awareness-gratitude for what you've already been given. It does indicate...something else, but not a lack of awareness-gratitude (for what you've already received.) If that makes sense?

Yeah...that's exactly what I got from your posts.

Now the question is: Are you trying to fill an emotional void by accumulating more, bigger, better, newer and/or shinier "stuff"? For you (and/or your family) does "stuff equal love" or whatever other positive emotion? I guess figuring out that kind of thing would be the hard part.

Hopefully, though, you're not feeling like just an 'ungrateful brat' anymore -- I guess that would be the good part :)

What was it like for you growing up? When you were young did you feel that you were in a environment of lack/struggling for material things or an environment of general abundance of material things?
