lucy9216 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I think I may need some assistance with revamping my online profile for match. I noticed another thread on this same subject and I thought it would be a good idea for me to ask the same with my profile. I rareley get emails with my account, but on the occassions that I do I mostly get a "Wow what an interesting profile" so I am sure it needs alot of help, I am not so good at talking about myself so any suggestions would be appreciated. "I am a fun, loving, and honest person with a big heart that can always see the good in people. I am a single mother of two children ages 3 and 9. Eventhough they do live at home with me, I still have my weekends free. I don't have as much free time as I used to in order to pursue all of the things that I have enjoyed, but I can tell you that I used to love horseback riding, I am really good at ropeing a steer, would love to someday get more involved in that again and I used to want to be a barrel racer. I am pursing my dream to obtain a degree in psychology. As I got older I often thought that it just wasn't in the cards for me, until one day I realized that was just silly. Now I am looking forward to graduating and working as an adholescent addictions counselor. I do very much enjoy going to disneyland I go all the time and I have passes. If you like to go too that is great, if not then no big deal but know that I will go often. I cannot really describe a perfect or ideal match. I am a simple low maintenance girl just looking for my best friend, that I can feel comfortable with just being myself. "

" My first suggestion is to definitely, definitely run your profile through a spellchecker. After all, it is the very first impression you give. That said, I would focus less on a laundry-list of qualities and instead concentrate on letting who you really are shine through in a kind of narrative. Just for example (this may or may not be reflective of you at all): "I'm a single mom of two young kids, so by default, I've also got Disneyland passes. That isn't to say that my weekends are all Mickey Mouse and long lines (unless it's to get into the rodeo!), because I do get some time off just for me, and that is where you come in. I'm looking for someone that is interested in getting to know a easy-going, fun-loving chick. Must be able to cite all seven dwarves (Disney or Grimm's), rope a steer, and not have any DSM-IV identified personality disorders. Just kidding. Well, let's make the DSM-IV part a firm disqualification." Do you see what I mean?
CarrieT Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 My first suggestion is to definitely, definitely run your profile through a spellchecker. I was going to say something similar; to being getting a degree and have that many mistakes in grammar and spelling is telling.

" I am a fun-loving, honest person with a big heart who always tries to see the good in others. I'm a single mother to two children, ages 3 and 9, who live at home and who spend each weekend elsewhere with their father. Free time isn't as plentiful as it once was, but I enjoy horseback riding and used to be pretty good at ropeing a steer while I once wanted to be a barrel racer. Presently I am in pursuit of a degree in psychology and look forward to working as an adolescent addictions counselor. Disneyland is a favorite destination of mine and we're there so often that I got yearly passes. If you like Disneyland, that is great, but if not then no big deal. I am a low maintenance girl in search of my best friend, someone in front of whom I can be comfortable just being myself. That was my slight revamping of what you have, and with just a few more elements of your personality and surroundings you could add more detail and become even more intriguing to passers-by. I'm sure there are lots of tricks and buzzwords offered by those who serve as consultants on such matters, but if you just add a few more of the things you like then your profile is basically fine as it is. Sometimes it seems that people neeeeeeeeeeeed those additional details in order to have some sort of criteria by which to separate scores of people too numerous to juggle all at once. Good luck.
tkgirl Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I just want to tell you that I wanted to change my profile too.. so I paid for that Match profile-pro deal... big waste of $40! you have gotten way better advice on here on how to change than I did and you got it for free! Bejita463 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 "I am a fun, loving, and honest person Everyone says this. Don't just SAY it. That's boring. Really, really boring. Instead provide examples of why you say it. Your opening line is pretty much the most important for catching the interest of someone who is looking for more than pretty pictures, and that generic and common opener is not going to help you much there. with a big heart that can always see the good in people. This isn't bad, but examples of where you've seen good in people would probably be better. It would tell the same thing, but would be both more interesting, and more informative to the type of person you are. I don't have as much free time as I used to in order to pursue all of the things that I have enjoyed, but I can tell you that I used to love horseback riding, I am really good at ropeing a steer, would love to someday get more involved in that again and I used to want to be a barrel racer. You have children. Of course you have less time than you used to. Past interests aren't who you are now. Cut the past tense and make it present. Example: Although I do not often have time for it anymore, I enjoy horseback riding and rodeo. I am pursuing my dream to obtain a degree in psychology. As I got older I often thought that it just wasn't in the cards for me, until one day I realized that was just silly. The bold part is good, and I corrected a spelling error. Normal part looks awkward and unnecessary to me. Now I am looking forward to graduating and working as an adolescent addictions counselor."Now" is sort of implied, and is not necessary to state, but aside from that, I like this part. Spelling error corrected. I do very much enjoy going to Disneyland. I go all the time, and I have passes. If you like to go too that is great, if not then no big deal but know that I will go often. The bold part is good, and I corrected a few grammatical errors. The normal part is worded poorly, in my opinion. A better way of saying that could be something along the lines of "Company that enjoys amusement parks would be welcome." I cannot really describe a perfect or ideal match.I don't believe you. You have things you want. What are they? How do I know I have qualities you want? Don't word things in a manner that gives the impression if I don't meet every criteria you won't be interested, but don't leave nothing to go on. If you really can't think of anything, that's alright, but just don't address it at all in that situation. I am a simple low maintenance girl just looking for my best friend, that I can feel comfortable with just being myself. This is probably the best line in the profile here. It is simple, but says a lot about what you want, and how you view relationships. So, there's my critique.
