Sometimes I find myself in an awkward situation where I invite a friend for a drink or to the cinema but then they in turn invite one of their other friends that I don't like. I don't feel I can tell my friend not to invite them without appearing rude but I know its going to put a downer on the whole thing and I start to dread going instead of looking forward to it. Sometimes I even start making up lies to get out of going at all :(

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me, and what am I supposed to do about it?

Argh yes! I hate when that happens. Like you, I'd find a way to get out of it in the end but I did a couple of times, told them in advance that I'd just like to spend my free time with them and not anyone else (outside the clique).
