Goatsbreath Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I swing by facebook, I check my email, I stop on over at loveshack, I google her name, I stop bye myspace. Then I swoop on over to the dating site I signed up at even though I know I'm not ready. I know, I'm just trying to make myself feel better bye looking at options. Then I go to facebook, I'm not even on her friend list anymore. No way, I was to strong for that and deleted her so instead I look at her through a friends profile just to see if she changed her picture. That's about all I can see. But good for me, I deleted her ... I check my email, then I come here, I google her name like maybe something has changed. Maybe it will be in big letters like the "your-x name" along with her new fling wedding. Then I go to myspace, then I go to facebook......
Trimmer Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Read this article. It deals with the neurochemical rewards systems that may be getting "hit" with the whole facebook/IM/texting/Email/Google cycle. Reading it and recognizing myself in it really opened my eyes (and may be a factor in my cutting back on LS, among other online activities, in the interest of trying to engage in more productive endeavors in ways that will give me similar positive feedback...) Actually, now that I reviewed it, the page has advertisements on it, so I don't think LS guidelines allow me to post the link directly. In the interest of getting you the information, if you will, Google the following: seeking brain dopamine site:slate.com and the first few links should be to an Aug 12, 2009 article entitled "Seeking". An interesting read - I have already used this information to examine my own internet usage, including the types of cycles you refer to... A little bored, check Google news, then check EMail, then LS, then Facebook, then see if anything has changed in the news yet... Lather, rinse, repeat... I feel a little like I've slipped into some addiction-like behaviors. Anyway, check it out.
