vanilla87 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 The following image might help illustrate my view: http://www.rustylime.com/media/image/girl_sizes.jpg As a women, I fluctuate between a size 6 and 8. I'm 22, 5'5", and weigh anywhere from 117 - 125 lbs. I eat like a horse. I'm as healthy as they come. Most men in NY like Anna's and Tillie's sizes usually. Most frown upon Caroline's but only if the woman is 5'9" or taller, then she is considered healthy in people's eyes because its balances out by her height. If a girl is 5'3" and a size 16 she looks like an over size oompa lumpa, no offense, but she would. Also most guys would rather have a size 12 girl with a very beautiful face, then a girl who is a size 6 with a very ugly face. I mean you have to talk to someone, look at their face all the time. It makes sense why a lot of guys would choose a pretty faced girl over an ugly one. Oh and yes I'm being honest, its better then someone sugar coating their opinion just to make you feel better about yourself at the end of the day. The world would be f***ed up if it was always like that...
Pink Cupcakes Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I totally agree and studies support that men will pick a pretty face with an average body over an average/unattractive face with a slim, trim body. Seriously.
Citizen Erased Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Seriously, how can that woman on the right be a size 16?! Unless it's an Oz or UK size 16 (which is a 14 US) I can't see how she can look like that. They don't even stock a 16 in most of the stores here, let alone an 18 which is what she'd be here. I know size 18 people, they do not look like that naked.
clv0116 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Spinner? It's sort of naughty - ha. Men are so bad. It means a woman so small you can slip her onto your d**k and give her a spin. Try to keep your sense of humor on that one.

So to convert to US sizes Size 8= size 4 US Size 12 = size 8 US Size 16 = size 12 US
vanilla87 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I just noticed that all these women seem to be very tall, which could be the reason why none of them look over weight. I bet you ever single one of them is over 5'8".
Star Gazer Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Size 8= size 4 US Size 12 = size 8 US Size 16 = size 12 US That's not right. It's only one size difference. UK 8 = US 6 UK 10 = US 8 UK 12 = UK 10 UK 14 = UK 12 UK 16 = UK 14
hotgurl Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Just to be clear when I said my GF is a 00, that's a vanity size invented because 2,4,6,... are swollen out due to vanity sizing. She's probably a "std" 2 or 4, which is tiny but not as small as 00/XS might seem. A lot of Asians and other foreigners are smaller than modern "American" sizes can accommodate. where does your G.F get clothes? my daughter is a 0 and I have the hardest time finding jeans for her even at junior stores.
Fay Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 That's not right. It's only one size difference. UK 8 = US 6 UK 10 = US 8 UK 12 = UK 10 UK 14 = UK 12 UK 16 = UK 14 Not true. Those charts are outdated, as almost the entire U.S. fashion industry has vanity-sized one additional size down in the last 2-3 years. UK 8 = US 4 and so on. In my teens I was the same exact height, weight and measurements that I am now at 25 (except for my new boobs). 26-inch waist, 37-inch hips, 5'8" 125 lbs. However, in my teens I wore a size 5/6... about four years ago that became a 3/4... and now it's a 1/2. US sizes.

I can't and my hips are smaller than yours (about a 33 or 34.) Our waists are about the same though. I'm a size 4 though. I could never fit into a size 1/2.

Size 1/2 is for 36-37-inch hips now. 33 or 34, you'll be wearing a 00 - good luck finding it
sb129 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Got that chart off a converter site online. It may not be accurate, but I own US sz 6 and 8 jeans, and UK sz 10 and 12 jeans, so it seems right to me. Anyway, there is variation in sizes even between brands, so how can there be a standardised universal sizing system? I own clothes in a range of sizes from UK8 to UK12, and then a variety of other international sizes, and am a different size from store to store sometimes. Someone once told me that (using UK brands as an example) when they make garments, the same number of garments have to come from each bolt of cloth for cost reasons. If the bolt of cloth is an inch or two short, they just make them fit, so not all the garments from that bolt will be exactly the same size. Don't know how true it is, but it makes sense, I have found there is more variation in cheaper clothing that the more expensive brands.
New Again Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 0 and 00 at Abercrombie - all their sizes are on the small side, hence why I shop there. Or you can buy super expensive ($200+) designer jeans/pants. They tend to run smaller also. Those sometimes come in 0,2,4, etc. but usually come with a measurement, like guys' jeans.

I buy clothes every year and I'm always a size 4 no matter the brand usually. I find it very hard to believe that someone with size 36/37 hips can wear a size 1/2.

Touche Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I'm a 0/2 and my hips are like 31/32 maybe? I haven't measured myself recently. That sounds about right I think so how can a person with 36/37 hips wear that same size? Makes no sense. Fay, maybe you didn't measure yourself right. You're probably smaller than you think if you're wearing those sizes. That's my guess anyway. Pink Cupcakes, that sounds about right to me. I believe it.

I find it very hard to believe that someone with size 36/37 hips can wear a size 1/2. Wow, it seems like everyone here is a size 2 or less. What's the deal. How in the world does someone with 36/37 hips, wear a size 1/2?! Yes, this makes no sense to me at all. My hips are a little larger than 36 now, but when they were 36, I almost always had to wear a size 6. I think there was this one size 4, I managed to wear. That is because things are cut differently sometimes.
sb129 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I am not small.... I am HUUUUGE at the moment. Or so people keeping telling me (isn't it charming how they never comment on your weight to your face unless you are pregnant?) My hips are well over 40" (all the better to birth baby with) and all my current jeans have an elastic waistband. Pass the chocolate!

Now, a size 2 would never make it over even my small hips.
caramel c Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I've been called skinny, slim, thin, and slender and I don't mind any of them. I only get annoyed when people are rude about it. Haters!
caramel c Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I havent read through this whole thing, but its very possible to be a size 2 with a 36-37'' waist, that is how I'm built. I am tiny in the middle but overall a slim hourglass figure, and all depending on the article of clothing, the maker, and the fabric it is a common occurence for me to purchase a size 2.
