Phateless Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Yup, another one for a leaner frame. Sounds like someone's in good shape! Thanks. Thanks! I'm 5'10", 170 lbs and pretty lean. Is that about where I wanna be? In your opinion, ladies, should I be bulking up or slimming down even more?

Phateless Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Fascinating - I always assumed you were taller, and built like a quarterback! lol, really? I find that fascinating. Just curious where you got that from. Did you think I'm a meathead, SG? I'm actually built more like a cyclist (was one for most of my life).

But I can see the cyclist thing too!
Jaytb Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 *sigh* sucks for us guys who have a hard time building up muscles. For the first time ever, I went to my school's gym this year in order to do some strength training. While I went up in strength, I don't notice much difference in size. I don't even have any idea if I get enough protein or not, and I don't want to use protein shakes or bars or anything like that. This thread is kind of depressing for me, but don't worry, my gf doesn't seem to care for physical strength (but I can open jars at least, yay me!)

Please take this thread with a grain of salt; it's the analogous thread to men's preference for breast size.

This thread is kind of depressing for me, but don't worry, my gf doesn't seem to care for physical strength (but I can open jars at least, yay me!) It took me a solid year to go from 145 to 165. I worked out two to three times per week and ate like a freaking maniac. Do some googling for 5x5 strength training. Just eat everything in sight because you'll need some extra bulk to build muscle mass. Once you get up to the size you want you can always trim back down. This cycle is referred to as "bulking" and "cutting."

Thornton Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 For me, strength and muscles are not priorities. I focus first on things like intelligence, compatibility, personality, decency, a nice face... muscles come after all of those things, and they're a nice plus if a guy has them. However I will admit that without a minimum of muscle mass none of the other things matter, because I just don't find very weedy guys to be masculine and attractive... I guess you at least have to find a person somewhat attractive to date them. But as long as a guy is average build and not a complete weed, then other factors take priority over muscles. However... assuming we're not talking about relationships, but about raw sexual attraction... then yes, muscles get me hot under the collar. If it's just based purely on looks and I'm not intending to have a relationship with the guy, then stuff like compatibility doesn't even matter... based purely on looks I'll choose the muscle man every time. I guess you could conclude that on an instinctive level I find muscles very attractive, but the fact that I'm not a complete slave to my instincts allows me to de-prioritise that in favour of mental and social factors.
Author Trialbyfire Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Yes, yes, Thornton, all the other more important criteria, such as brains, sense of humour, integrity, strong core values etc., have been met, hence why you're dating or in a relationship with the person, as expressed in my opening post.... With this in mind, can we just look at this in a purely physical and fluffy way? Do you or don't you get weak kneed from the physical strength and male body, of someone you're dating or in a relationship with?
Thornton Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 All other things being equal, I would always prefer muscles over no muscles, because muscles are hot. If given the choice of a nice-but-weedy guy, and the exact same guy but with muscles, I'd choose the muscle-bound version every time.
Jaytb Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Please take this thread with a grain of salt; it's the analogous thread to men's preference for breast size. Don't worry, I already took this with a grain of salt. I recognize that this is mostly about instincts and the superficial stuff. It took me a solid year to go from 145 to 165. I worked out two to three times per week and ate like a freaking maniac. Do some googling for 5x5 strength training. Just eat everything in sight because you'll need some extra bulk to build muscle mass. Once you get up to the size you want you can always trim back down. This cycle is referred to as "bulking" and "cutting." I don't know if I would want to bulk. I think I'd rather gain muscles slowly and surely. Plus eating a lot just ends up with me gaining pure fat.

This thread is kind of depressing for me, but don't worry, my gf doesn't seem to care for physical strength (but I can open jars at least, yay me!) Many of us don't care about "big" muscles. Just physical strength with some definition. For example my man is 6'3"+ fluctuating between 180 to 190 lbs. He's not a heavily muscled guy, just broad shouldered, strong and lean. I prefer angles rather than the pumped look.

What a coincidence!! I'm also around 180 - 190 lbs.... but I'm 4'11"

Shoot. If you can tackle the Heafty bags like a linebacker, and squish spiders for her with the same enthusiasm you use on those jars... you won’t ever have to worry about being able to bench press a bus.
Author Trialbyfire Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 You're asian, you've posted just about every height and weight out there, enough that I wonder if you're some kind of rubberman, bouncing from one physical shape to another, one stance to another.

I don't want Schwarzenegger from his glory days. That's too much. And even though another example - the Rock - is nice to look at, I think it's too much. The guy I'm...um...seeing - is thinly built, but Ohhhhh, the muscles. Rock-climber and competitive swimmer...OMG, the muscles. You can't be bulky and be a swimmer. You have to be able to cut through the water. He has kick-ass biceps, sweet lats, defined abs...Rrrrrrrrrr. Don't get me started on the muscle thing. This is the first guy I've really dated that has muscles like this and I'm melting. As TBF said - it's more about definition. Not bulk. And can I add...am I the only one that keeps staring at the veins on his arms? LOL *drool*

I prefer angles rather than the pumped look. doesn't really help. I don't have much definition. And I don't want large muscles either, in fact I recognize that most women don't want a bodybuilder. I'm still far from ideal, and nowhere what I would call "defined". It's a lot of work just to get definition. And I definitely won't take steroids, which a lot of guys my age do (college age).

Are you thinking a totally "cut" body? If so, it's not necessary. If you're healthy and within reasonable weight, you're going to outmass most women. For that matter, are you larger than your g/f?
Author Trialbyfire Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Oh and before I forget, I remember what you look like Jaytb, from the previous picture thread. You're a total cutie, so I don't know why you're worried!
