Hkizzle Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 What do you think they are? Thaddeus said on another thread that stats for cheating are all over the place, and there could be chance of women under reporting and men over reporting. Which I find unlikely because no one over reports cheating behavior. Men might over report number of partners, but not cheating. In general people will under report cheating even in confidential questionniares. There was a good book writing a few years back called Lust in Translation, which examined cheating across the world and how each society viewed it. I see it this way from studies I've read and the stories I've heard. In Western developed countries rates of cheating are probably around 50% for men, and 25% for women. For many Asian countries were prostitution is readily available I think it's more in the region of 80% for men and 20% for women. What are your views?
Lizzie60 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Methink that men cheat wayyyy more than women... I'd say at least 90% men (most if not all would if they were sure they would never get caught) maybe 20% women..
xpaperxcutx Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I don't know the statistics, but I think mostly it has something to do with a person's morality and how they view relationships. Most people are okay with cheating because they know they can get away with it. One thing I would like to comment though is that in most asian countries where old traditional values are still observed, cheating by men is not morally accepted but tolerated by women who were brought up to place the family first above their own feelings. Most (asian) women will turn a blind eye.

Officially cheating is wrong, but unofficially behind the scenes a lot of men do it.

Officially cheating is wrong, but unofficially behind the scenes a lot of men do it. I was born and raised in the US, so I grew up with a more western way of thinking. But from most my previous back to Asia, I seen alot of women tolerate cheating and various other things. Divorce is more common nowadays, but most women don't see it as an option. There are other things that come with the results of a divorce, such as raising a child ( if the laws of that certain country doesn't compensate the mother with alimony and child support), and stigmatization from various family members on the wife for not being a good housewife and taking care of the family.
Author Hkizzle Posted August 15, 2009 Author Posted August 15, 2009 Yeah and a lot of people get married in the first place even if not in love because getting married is an expectation of parents, family and society. Whilst society has changed, many traditional values linger. You ever go back to Asia?
xpaperxcutx Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Yeah and a lot of people get married in the first place even if not in love because getting married is an expectation of parents, family and society. Whilst society has changed, many traditional values linger. You ever go back to Asia? I go back once in a while. I would like to add that because of the recent modernization of Asia, and the developments of metropolis all over the continent, many asian ( women) are adopting a more westernized style of thinking as well. Confucianism is still present, but parents are less stern on marriage as before. However, most asian women from good backgrounds and family still follow the need to bring home a good boyfriend that's approved by the family.

Which is probably just the worst possible mix and causing a lot of problems for women. For example a lot of girls I know go clubbing and hook up with guys that aren't even ready to settle down. These girls just aren't interested in the average local guy, because they are not charismatic enough. To make things worse a lot of girls get clingy and needy because of the desire to find a guy that will settle down with them. Worst combination, totally doesn't work.
Thaddeus Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Here are some stats with references I've found: Percentage of married couples who cheat ...according to the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy, approximately 50 percent married women and 60 percent of married men will have an extramarital affair at some time in their marriage.... These numbers represent a huge jump in the past decade. A University of California study in 1998 reported that 24 percent of men and 14 percent of women had had sex outside their marriages.Infidelity statistics Up to 37% of men and 22% of women admit to having affairs. Researchers think the vast majority of the millions of people who visit chat rooms, have multiple "special friends”.Recent studies reveal that 45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some time or another during their relationship (Atwood & Schwartz, 2002 - Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy) Women cheat more than men WOMEN are far more unfaithful than men, a survey reveals. Forty per cent of females cheat on lovers, compared with 34 per cent of males. The psychological reasons women cheat more than men See what I mean? The stats are all over the place...
Spark1111 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 The largest jump in western civilizations has been the increase in women having affairs. Sociologists attribute that to women leaving traditional roles of homemaker to enter the workplace. Translation: Workplace = Supply (men) and opportunity (time away from SO), same as it has always provided men. We can blame the feminist movement, or the economy, or both.
MrFun Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 We can blame the feminist movement, or the economy, or both. The Feminist movement has been the best thing ever, since now men live in a world of sexual abundance and freedom of choice. Men do not have to commit anymore and can have a plethora of different women many times a month. Men can take their time to find a woman to have children eventually, if they so desire. Since men nowadays feel that women aren't the gatekeepers of fidelity anymore, they don't want to commit and waste their resources on a relationship that's destined to be run-of-the-mill. I think the rates of cheating will grow in the coming years and there will be counter-movement to this as well.
Brady_to_Moss Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 maybe 20% women.. No way. 20%? Are you serious? I am in college and know who is with who and i see what goes on behind the scenes and i see girls cheat close to if not more than men. I see girls all the time say to the guy..i have a bf but i can make an exception...maybe just a ton of sluts at my school.
xpaperxcutx Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Oh yeah? Where you usually go back to? Southern China.

You have two genders stuck in a campus with raging hormones. Besides College romances are more flings than LTR, hence people cheat more.
Author Hkizzle Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 Southern China. lol, you're so specific. :cool:Hong Kong, ShenZhen, GuangZhou, HaiNan Island, Macau?
Author Hkizzle Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 I really doubt women cheat more than men, it's pretty clear to see even in our own social lives that men tend to cheat more. The one survey that says women cheat more is by The Sun. Sorry but the Sun is a piece of crap newspaper, and the only decent thing is page 3. As for what Mr Fun says, it's so true. The feminist movement has actually benefitted certain men. Ironically dating now is more primal and primitive than before. Without rules of mate selection we are going with feelings that are pretty caveman like. So that benefits certain alpha males that get all the sex they want, and some men can never find a decent women.
